      Sky Unlimi Speed Problem...

      Hello,

My dad has had Skybb for 3-4 years now on the Sky Unlimited Package.
Just recently found out that Sky has changed the packages to 20Mb now.
We went from a limited package on a 8Mb package to a 16MB unlimited package but no sign off speed changes. Spoke to sky support a few times gave me some tips on testing the main socket and trying different microfilters and such.
Then they said they will do a reconfiguration on my line which will be complete in 3 days. That has now been 3 weeks and my current speed is: http://www.speedtest.net/result/654254840.png
But I'm maxing my speed of 850KB/s and uploading at a max of 150KB/s

Tested on wired and wireless same results with either

      What shall I do?
I've heard of this site called cm9.net/skypass which gives you the username + password to your sky info to use on other routers rather than the supplied ones from Sky themselfs BUT it will breach contract using a different router other than their own. Should I give it a go? By the way.. the contract runs out next month.

EDIT: Here is my exchange http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/LNSTF currently 2 miles from my house

I think the first thing you have to realize is that the speed you supposedly got on speedtest.net is ridiculous, typical of that tester. To get that speed you would need a 50Mb cable connection.

Take your router stats from the normal position and from the Test socket and post them here.

How to get your router statistics

How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

Note - When downloading always select the Custom install or you will end up with stuff you don't want.

      Code:
Line Attenuation	38.0 db	24.5 db

I am afraid we are not interested in fairy tales, do a speed test here - Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester that will give you a believable result.

At the moment we re not really interested in speedtests, but your router statistics, which must include sync speed, attenuation and noise margins, up and down. Copy and paste them here.

I don't think it was really a believable result
      Code:
      Test taken
      (up to)	Download
      Speed (Kbps)	Upload
      Speed (Kbps)
      16 December, 2009 13:27:03	5288 Kbps	494 Kbps
5288 Kbps is capable of 550KB/s ? or so when I'm really getting 850KB/s

line atten and noise margin is posted above but not sure what you mean by sync speed

Your noise margin is too low. What do you have plugged into all your telephone sockets in the house and are you using any extension cables to run the broadband off?

Don't forget to compare like with like, 1Byte = 8 bits.

BTW When you listen to your phone do you hear any pops or crackles?

So the only socket in use is the master socket? Do you have sky tv plugged in? Or is it simply a filter directly into the socket with a phone line & the light grey sky supplied dsl cable?

Yeah, The sky isn't plugged into the phone line since the extension cable stopped working for that (They nailed it to the wall >,<) The only thing plugged into the master socket is the microfilter from that the phone and the modem/router is connected
