      Poor speed and possibly capped....help

      Hi,

First time poster (so please be patient). I've been with SKY for nearly 3 years and have had the BB service for the same length of time. It has been one big head ache over the years.

I have been on the phone to their 1st and 2nd line support, and seem to make some head way, but only for it to go back to the same crappy connection.

(Repeat the above a good handful of times)

My line at the moment seems to only sync at 2045. Reboots, using tools to change SNR have made no difference.

If a BT engineer comes out my line connects at about 3.1mb, then over a period of time drops. Lowest I've had it was about 1.1mb. Then repeat the cycle. What could cause this?

Also if you could, what is the most I could get from my line and is it worth calling SKY BB or would I be flogging a dead horse?

      ADSL LinkDownstreamUpstream
      Connection Speed2045 kbps621 kbps
      Line Attenuation55.0 db33.2 db
      Noise Margin7.9 db8.5 db

P.S. The downstream SNR fluctuates quite a bit from 12db to 4.5db (and got down to 1db once a long time back).

      Thanks in advance
      Deej

Your line is capped, but to be honest even if it wasn't you would not get much more.

Plug into your test socket, take the stats from there and post them.

If you have the DG834GT router, go here and click the Detailed stats button, post the result.

This will show what mode you are on. I suspect you are on ADSL2+ and your line is not suitable.

Re: Poor speed and possibly capped....help

Checked my line this morning and was sync'ing at 1.53MB!! So spoke to SKY this morning, and they have confirmed that the line was capped. They have uncapped it and done a few 'tweaks', back up now.

Heres the line stats, are they right in saying that there is nothing more that can be done?

They have done the right thing and put you on G.DMT. Keep an eye on your downstream noise margin if it stays up around 9-10 dbs, give them another ring and ask them to lift the cap a bit more.
