Re: b/b upgrade but not speed

decided to do some more checks over again and my current stats are:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 10237 kbps 604 kbps
Line Attenuation 29 db 16 db
Noise Margin 14 db 5 db
however when i pick up the phone it is:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 10237 kbps 604 kbps
Line Attenuation 29 db 16 db
Noise Margin 2 db 7 db (sometimes NM is 0 without b/b cutting off)
the stats then adjust themselves to the above stats again.
if i do 17070 option 4, zoe says there is noise but if ido it again she says there is not any noise (typical woman cant make up their minds).

Try plugging another filter into the first one and plug your phone into that.

plugged another filter into the filter and does not make any difference, still getting noise on the line. so then plugged adsl line into 2nd filter and it would not connect, just getting orange flashing light and cuts off and tries to connect again.

Re: b/b upgrade but not speed

got my brother in law in last night (while i was at work) who works for BTO and he plugged in his own router and noise(or data as he said) is still there, said there is nothing wrong with the telephone side of things. said its definately b/b related. he then drew a sketch explaining to my wife how it works. if you make a phone call it goes from the telephone point in your house to a line outside (A to D) but with b/b it goes from 1 adsl connection to another adsl connection (B toC) and he reckons that is where the problem lies but the unfortunate thing is the data cannot be heard on the other telephone asit is not a loud as it was, so sky cant actually here the problem.

It wouldn't do, as the ADSL frequencies have been filtered out by the first filter. The phone should work as the lower frequency used by the phone is still there. Any chance of borrowing another filter, maybe from your brother in law, which is known to be working properly.

Re: b/b upgrade but not speed

got 4 different phone calls from sky yesterday (3 from same bloke) and he said they will send out new filters but also said i was not the only one with the problem, dont know if that was in my area or not. for the 4th call was from someone different and he said they will get a bto engineer out to today and they will start at the exchange and work towards my house to fix (hopefully) the problem.

Re: b/b upgrade but not speed

got BTO engineer out yesterday and woohoo got my phone sorted, no noise, no cut offs, al sorted. the engineer done some line tests and said everything was clear, all packets that were sent, were received. the thing is that the first engineer said the max speed they have tested was 7.5 meg but after explaing i was getting anywhere between 8 - 12 meg they enquired about it and turns out their equipment can only test upto 8 meg. anyways sky phoned last night and put on DLM and now my stats are:
Connection Speed 16381 kbps 765 kbps
Line Attenuation 29 db 15 db
Noise Margin 7 db 15 db
which is even better than what i was getting before so hopefully it stay at that speed and averthing is sorted now. so thanks for all help/advice from everyone involved.

It shows that Sky can and do go the extra yard to sort out problems. It is a pity every problem could not be solved so well.

it was the BTO engineer that went the extra mile as sky would not release new equipment cos according to them the line was clear, when it wasn't, suppose it help when a relation works for BT.
