Question Suddenly my sync has dropped in speed

After some problems with line drops approx 18 months ago Sky locked my line to 6130 and it has been rock solid stable since then. However, last night, after some issues with Sky router past few days I bought myself a Linksys WAG160N, got my sky username/password and plugged it all in.
Connection went smoothly but I noticed that the line had synced at 5022 now. I have tried everything I can see to try (unplugged line from wall for 1 hour, changed cable, microfilter etc) but with no increase. I have currently plugged the sky sagem back in but it is now synching at 5022 also!
I have an engineer installed (many many years ago) faceplate with front removed and cable plugged into test socket through an ADSLNation microfilter. There is absolutely nothing else plugged into the line and never has been. According to Sky i should get between 7 and 8 with my stats but I would be happy at this point just to get back to my solid 6.
Can anyone offer any suggestions before I call sky?

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5022 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 45.0 db 23.0 db
Noise Margin 8.3 db 14.5 db

With an attenuation of 45db you could expect
adsl2+ (LLU) 7200 kbps and throughput of 6372 kbps
you noise margin of 8.3db does not leave much room for improvement.
Is the orange wire disconnected at the back of the phone socket? If not then remove it.
You could try out a filtered face plate

Re: Suddenly my sync has dropped in speed

there are only 2 wires connected inside faceplate, and when I disconnect the orange one I get no adsl line at all. Reconnected it and adsl pops back up again.
Why would it suddenly have changed after 18+ months at 6mbit with 0 issues or changes?

That is a wee bit dangerous Joss, sometimes the orange wire is used as a carrier. Removing the wire from terminal 3, no matter what colour it is, is the proper advice.

If you are plugged into the Test socket, it looks like you may have a problem with your external line, but it is strange this should happen just when you changed routes.

Does the Linksys have the ability to change Mode. If so, check what Mode it is on now and change it. If it is on ADSL2 change to G.DMT and vice-versa..

Re: Suddenly my sync has dropped in speed

Ok, changed mode on Linksys to ADSL2+. G.DMT and ADSL2, ADSL2+ gives the best line attenuation but sync speed is still the same

edit: but now my web browsing speed is sllllowwwwww

Re: Suddenly my sync has dropped in speed

Your sync speed will stay the same as you are capped. What you are looking for is a rise in the noise margin.

Re: Suddenly my sync has dropped in speed

yeah I know I am capped, but I am capped at 6130, not 5022. What i need to know is how do I get that 6130 back?
Oh, and the Linksys is being RMA'ed as it is slow as hell no matter what settings are used and its Wifi is spotty around the house compared to the Sagem or the Netgear

Re: Suddenly my sync has dropped in speed

If you boot your router and it syncs at 5022 with a noise margin higher than 7dbs, then you are capped at that speed. What are your stats with the Sky router?

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5022 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 45.0 db 23.1 db
Noise Margin 8.1 db 12.5 db

and so now, the obvious question, how do i get Sky to remove the cap???
