Unhappy sudden speed drop to 1.3mb

I have been with sky broadband for around a year and have never had a problem before im on the mid package and at any time of the day always get around 8mb consistently suddenly a few days ago my connection has started dropping out every few minutes and im only connected at 1.3mb im at a loss!
it drops the connection every few mins i get the orange flashing light or no light at all then it takes around 30 seconds to recconect.
power light on the router is always on.

i have removed the faceplate and plugged directly into the master socket.

      replaced the splitter.

done a linecheck for any noise.

replaced the cable from the splitter to the router.

      unplugged my phone.

i cant think of anything else to try here are my stats and they are stable at that.

Go here Mel's Notes: Dg834gt-1skuk click the Detailed Stats button and post your stats.

It looks like a) You have been moved to ADSL2+ and your line is not suitable or b) You have been moved to the SVBN, this would not apply unless you have Sky Phone Rental.

Re: sudden speed drop to 1.3mb

It looks like you have a fault on your external line. How is your voice line for noise? Plug a corded phone into the Test socket, dial one digit and listen. You should hear nothing except possibly a very quiet hiss. Anything else and you should report it to BT as a noisy line. Don't mention broadband.

You could try asking Sky to try your line on G.DMT instead of ADSL2. This may help, but it is very unlikely you will get anything near 8Mb, 5-6 is more likely. Do you have another router you could try?

Re: sudden speed drop to 1.3mb

thanks for your help im not hearing any noise on my line i emailed my stats to sky and they replied with the following:

      Dear ******** *********
Sorry for the delay in replying to your message.
I have checked your Line and see we are currently running a speed
of 1984kbps down your Line, which is basically a 1.9meg connection.
We are doing testing on your Line which is called DLM, Dynamic Line
Management, and what this does is runs various tests on your line
in order to find the quickest and most stable connection for your
Line. This can often start at a slower speed and work it's way up to
a higher speed, and this could be the cause of your Speed issue. The testing runs for a maximum of 10 days, but we can suspend the Testing and see how we can manually make your Line the best.
So you can leave the speed for another 5 days and it will configure on it's own, or if you reply back to this e-mail stating that you wish for ourselves to configure your line and we can do that for you.

so fingers crossed it works out although the router is currently connected at 900kb :/ im hoping it will pick up over the next few days.

Re: sudden speed drop to 1.3mb

Yours is one of the first Sky connections I have seen on RE-ADSL2, which is supposed to increase the reach of ADSL (Reach Extended-ADSL2) it will be interesting to see how this pans out. With your present figures it does not look as if it is going to do anything spectacular. Are you on Sky Rental? That may account for the different mode.

Re: sudden speed drop to 1.3mb

im expecting a brand new RJ11 cable to arrive tomorrow i did replace the original one but it was with one i found in a cupboard cant remember where it came from so im hoping that might help.
i found a set of stats i posted back in september 2007 the only difference i can see is a 20db rise in line attenuation and the fact that ive been switched to adsl2
sky seem to have pegged me back at 1mb at the moment im hoping it will start rising.

Re: sudden speed drop to 1.3mb

the only difference i can see is a 20db rise in line attenuation
This is crucial. It indicates that there has been a major change in your phone line. This could be caused by a change in the route your line is taking to the exchange, or more likely, a major fault in the line or exchange. How you can get this investigated, I am not sure. For a start you could send your stats, past and present, to Sky. They may be able to persuade BT to carry out a full investigation on your line, there is definitely something seriously wrong. Your attenuation seems to be gradually increasing, even in your recent stats, an increase of 48 to 52 is not normal.

Re: sudden speed drop to 1.3mb

well just thought id update how things panned out.
after much deliberation i decided to call a bt engineer out despite bts online line checker insisting the problem was on my property. (125 charge if they were proved correct) straight away the engineer diagnosed it as the fault been over the road on the telegraph pole. turns out bt had done some work on the pole the week before and had trapped and damaged my line in the process.
the bt guy was sound he put me a new filtered master socket on while he was here and had a look at my broadband stats while he had a brew!
he reckoned i should mither sky until im getting around 9mb with these stats.
i asked sky to run the DML again as my connection was fixed at 1.9mb they replied with your connection has now been manually configured to its optimum speed.
its about 1mb slower than it was but its still pretty fast just a relief it is working properly again i will be forced into an upgrade up to the unlimited package in a month or so any way due to eclipsing the 10gb limit so i may gain more speed then.(just out of interest the first thing sky did when i reported a problem was switch me from ADSL+2 mode back to G.DMT)

thanks for the help isitme much appreciated.
