old school 56k modem speeds on my sky broadband

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 384 kbps 248 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.5 db 30.2 db
Noise Margin 29.3 db 31.0 db

im getting download speeds of around 40kbps, and downloading just a single mp3 is a slow process, i have no chance downloading a movie, ive notice reading through this thread that Line Attenuation should not be this high, i have recently had bt out to fix my phone line, but this has only seemed to have fixed the crackling on my landline and my broadband is still the same speed, could someone please advise me.

      Thanks

Have you plugged the routerinto the test socket?

Find the master socket in the house that has the BT logo on it and is spit into two parts. Remove the screws and pull on the bottom part of the plate.

Attach your filter and router plug into the socket behind this plate and test your speeds again.

If the speeds are better then you have faulty extensions or front plate.

Another reason may be that Sky capped you when you had the crackling line as it was affecting your broadband. You may have to phone them to manually reset you.

Are you in the master socket or the test socket. Have you unscrewed the bottom half of the master socket and plugged into the hidden socket behind it?

You're capped - just ring up sky and get the cap lifted and it should be good to go.

I had the same problem for months the downstream was 120kbps with a very high noise margin .
It took 5 BT engineers call outs and three new routers. In the end it came down to a bad line from the cab box to the telegraph pole. The BT engineer swapped my line with one from a empty house in my close, which was lucky as they aren't allowed to swap them if the line has been used in past 6 weeks.
Now I get download speeds of 4.5mbps which is quite good as the exchange is 1.5 miles away

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5920 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 45.0 db 24.0 db
Noise Margin 5.8 db 19.0 db

surely sky took this into consideration before sending out 5 engineers and 3 new routers?

also they posted at 11.11pm(during peak hours) to say that the line was replaced and that they dont have a problem now =S
