Last few days I have constantly lost connection - help

      Hello Forum,

Over the last few days I have been losing connection to my sky broadband consistently. I usually get a 1.5mb to 1.9mb connection. The orange amber light on my sky netgear router flashes for about an hour then i will get connection for about half hour then lose connection again. Sometimes I lose the connection after a few minutes. Today I went around and replaced all the filters and the cables. I reconnected and was getting speeds of about 100k! Finally I plugged the main filter into the test socket and now I am getting speeds of close to 3mb which I have never received before. Is this a bt fault or sky problem?

Also I have noticed now that when I reconnect the router either to the test socket or the normal socket that the @ light does not flash orange it goes from being off to straight to green? Is that significant?

      thanks for your time

      Rob

It sound like an internal wiring fault which is your responsibility - not Sky or BT...especially if speed increases in the test socket...

Re: Last few days I have constantly lost connection - help

Just got off the phone to sky broadband help. After some lengthy tests on the phone line etc they have come to the conclusion its the router. I can hear noise on the line but as soon as i turn off the router the noise goes away. They did some checks and said something about when the router is trying to authenticate for an ip its dropping. Dont know what thats got to do with the noise interference from the router. The amber light on the router does not flash anymore just either green or nothing and drops constantly even on the test socket.

Make sure you change the adsl cable when you receive the new equipment.

I'm sorry, but Sky said what!?!?!

You've already proved the fault is with the internal wiring and we told you so why did you call Sky? It's nothing to do with them as your internal wiring is for you to fix...

Did you check for noise on the line in the test socket?

It looks like there could be 2 faults, dodgy wiring and a dodgy router. While you wait for your replacement router, buy, fit and use a filtered faceplate. This will solve your internal wiring issues. This is why we know you have issues-
I am getting speeds of close to 3mb which I have never received before.
