      Bumping up speed

      Hi guys

I was just wondering if anyone knows if i will be able to bump my speed up closer to the 20mb mark

Im on the 20mb unlimited package at the moment and am within spitting distance of the exchange.

      Router stats are

Connection Speed 12362 kbps 944 kbps
Line Attenuation 28 db 14 db
Noise Margin 5 db 12 db

I dont really understand what they mean

I have a strange faceplate and dont use any filters around the house if that makes any difference.
The faceplate is one of these http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/images/ph...late_large.jpg

      Thanks for any help

      Re: Bumping up speed

Your stats show that you are getting the max your line can handle, have you tried the test socket as you seem to have a little noise on the line then post the results from there.
Connected at 17Mbps on sky unlimited

      Re: Bumping up speed

With a filtered faceplate, you should not have interference from internal wiring, but something is effecting your line. Remove the bottom part of the faceplate and plug the router directly into the test socket, using a filter. When the faceplate is off, go round your other extensions and check if you have a dial tone. There should be none, if there is, your wiring is incorrect.

You should be aware that with your attenuation you are not going to get anywhere near 20 Mb, 14-15 if you are lucky.

      Hi, thanks for the replies

I tried plugging the router into the test socket via a filter but it wouldnt connect.

      Is this a problem?

      Re: Bumping up speed

It could be some deposits built up on the contacts preventing a good connections. Sqirt some WD40 on the plg and work it in and out a few ties. What about your other sockets, are they dead?

      Re: Bumping up speed

The router just doesnt pick up any signal when its plugged into the test socket

That must mean something is wrong

I have 3 sockets, but no phones. Router plugged into one, sky box into another and 2 sky boxes sharing a socket upstairs. Would a Sky tv box signal test tell me if there is a dial tone or not?

Yes, that would do it. It should say no phone line detected.

When a faceplate is in position for a long time deposits build up which are disturbed when you remove the socket and plug another in. Very often this gives a bad, or no connection at all. As I said give it a clean, that may also be the cause of your lowish speed with the faceplate.

      Re: Bumping up speed

      Has your noise margin increased?
