      Line unstable since upgrade

      Morning all,

My line got pushed up to an impressive 12.7Mb dl and 1mb upload speed after Sky's recent speed increases. Unfortunately, the line now seems unstable - the router keeps giving the flashing orange light and dropping out. I've phoned Sky, who put me through to tier 3, and I've got an open ticket, so they've dropped my speed to the following:

      System Up Time: 01:19:03

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 492121 934853 0 19225 218178 01:18:08
      LAN 100M/Full 1559 421 0 50 12 01:18:58
      WLAN 11M/54M 926308 564182 0 231704 23116 01:14:25
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8189 kbps 414 kbps
Line Attenuation 30 db 16 db
Noise Margin 17 db 16 db

Realistically, what should I aim for as a stable down speed, and up as well, I suppose (though I'd like the full 1mb on that side if poss)??

      Cheers marras!

Have you checked that your internal wiring is OK by plugging into the Test socket. There is some reason why you were dropping out, your speed was not that high for your attenuation. With your attenuation you would expect a speed of 14Mb maybe even 15 if you have a good external line, so it should not have been dropping with 12Mb..

Do you by any chance have a black Sagem Router?

If so call sky, ask them to put your speeds back up to 12mb and keep your delays OFF 8.

      Re: Line unstable since upgrade

Krysis - Black Netgear at this end, so I'm assuming that's not the fault.

Isitme - I've not got a test socket. Before the upgrade, thanks to yourself and a few others on here, I took out the ring circuit, and managed to get Sky to connect me at a stable 12.3Mb down, and 700K up which had been stable for about 5 months up until recently. The only change I can think of to the line, has been Sky's upgrade, which saw me connecting at 12.7Mb down, 1Mb up. Could it have anything to do with my Max Delays or owt - I had it set for decent pings on the old setup for Xbox gaming thanks to Mr Stabby.

      Re: Line unstable since upgrade

I am not sure what has gone wrong. As you were getting your maximum download speed the 'upgrade' should have made no difference to you, apart from the increase in Upload speed. I wonder if this is what caused the problem. It could be they will have to cap your upload speed to get your download speed back and remain stable. There are actually very few who are getting 1Mb u/l and these all have quite low attenuations.
