      Interference!!!!

Everynow and then, whatever I am doing I get a buzzing sound from the PC. This noise which sounds like BRRRRR! interuypts for a split second and can be heard whether I am watching on the Sky Player or working in MS Word.... anything.

I cannot find out why it is happening. Sound/graphic cards check, connections checked, rebooted router et al; no good.

One thing I did not bother with was my laptop, not used a lot now. I was using the Iplayer away from the PC, another room and the same thing happened again.

So that does not appear to be the computer at fault, rather it may be some problem with the line (phone is OK) or even the router.

      A|ny ideas?

The noise is coming from the PC? If it's coming from the PC then it clearly sounds like a fault with the PC - Possibly dust in a fan?

Could be a loose wire which is making occasional contact with the fan.

One thing I did not bother with was my laptop, not used a lot now. I was using the Iplayer away from the PC, another room and the same thing happened again.
I am not sure whether you mean the noise came from the laptop or the PC?

      Re: Interference!!!!

Of course I have had my PC checked, including the fan, this is not a mechanical noise. For some reason it is a noise that appears to be generated electronically. Loose wires.... no, as I said I have checked.

I was surprised initially because I thought the problem was with my PC. It never occurred to me to check the laptop which I use rarely now.

I used the laptop the other night and heard the exact noise coming from the laptop. PC off by the way; middle of the night. It would appear logically that there may be a router problem as that is the common denomicator. I have just rebooted that and will be listening out.

Check the router PSU, make sure it is not overheating.

Suggest it may not be PC related but something from the telephone system and sounding through your speakers. From time to time I have a sound which maybe like yours but sound is not easy to describe, better heard!

      Re: Interference!!!!

According to Sky, they are sure the Router is at fault and are replacing it. Everything described points that way, I will be certain by the weekend.

In anticipation I have to thank those who were anxious to help who posted suggestions.

      Re: Interference!!!!

A new router is installed. The result so far....

The continuous connecting and reconnecting of the router has gone.
No constant buffering stopping me viewing IPlayer or BBC News on my Laptop for example.
A quicker, smoother service all round.
The buzzing has stopped and I get the impression that I may be getting around 20% more battery life on the Laptop.

So my problem is apparently solved.

Thank you for the suggestionsa nd advice received.
