As expected, a good solid 7/8 dbs. Have you thought of anything that can be causing the line noise? I expect it will start again about the same time.

I have to emphasise that this is not something Sky are doing, it is something in your neighbourhood which is causing the noise. Could I suggest that this evening you unplug everything you have connected to your power supply when your noise margin starts to drop(it is not likely to be fridge/freezers as they would be effecting it at all times). I realise this will be very inconvenient but it may be the only way to get to the bottom of the problem.

I think it is time you took your case back to Sky. As always getting past the stone-wallers at Tier 1 is the difficult part. Try to convince them that your connection is fine all day until late afternoon and that you suspect Repetitive Electrical Impulse Noise. It is pointless going through the usual tests they want you to do. Tier 1 will not have a clue what you are talking about, but the guys in CST will. Hopefully they will book an appointment with a REIN engineer. The next problem will be to convince them that it is pointless sending one during the day when there is no problem, he has to come late afternoon when the problem starts. If you show him your records of what is happening, it will give him an idea.

Re: illlegal on goings? Affect my speed?!

So i have a rough guide, what could it possibly be?

Its only startd past 2 weeks, some change there??

What exactly is being affected, the router? the cable from router to wall?

Re: illlegal on goings? Affect my speed?!

As Kitz's says in her article linked above -

      Typical REIN sources
This list is not exhaustive but common culprits could be:
A current imbalance between two power carrying conductors (Earth leakage fault).
Faulty thermostats (Central heating, Immersion heaters).
Electrical power supply units (Laptops, Routers, Plasma TVs).
Industrial/Commercial power usage (Electric Railways, Electric fences, Electric motors).
Decorative electrical items (Christmas tree lights, Touch lights).
Security systems (PIR lights switching on and off).
Digital Communication Receivers (Satellite and Freeview set top boxes).
Internal power and telecoms cables run close together at the End User.

If you have an AM/MW radio you could try the tests given in her article. You may find it is coming from your next door neighbour or even a street light or a dodgy starter in a strip light.

Re: illlegal on goings? Affect my speed?!

All you can do is push Sky to send out a REIN engineer. If he finds the source, it is up to BT to try to fix it or get it fixed. Do you know if any of your neighbours are having the same difficulty?

There is something else you could try, which is not a fix but a workaround, that is adjusting your target noise margin. You can use the Target Noise Margin function in Mels Notes to do this. If you want to try it, go to Mel's Notes: Dg834gt-1skuk put 136 in the percentage box and press the Adjust Margin and Resync button. Your router will resync at about 11-12dbs, I think. Your speed will be reduced by about 1Mb but it should hold that speed and not drop down when the noise starts on the line. This is not a very good fix as you will be loosing more speed, but it may be worth a try as your connection will still be usable. It can be returned to default by resyncing your router.
