      No Bandwidth at Night

I'm using Sky Broadband (the 8Mb one), and during the day it is excellent - full speed. However at night (between 5pm and 11:30pm) it is far slower than dialup (youtube videos do not load at all, pages take an age to load, speed tests show 0.1kbps).

I heard some one on this forum saying that we are being throttled and the only thing to do is change ISP? Is that correct?

If so, what ISP? Here is my exchange - looking at it, is TalkTalk my best bet?

i just posted basically what you have posted, on sky conenct (your package) you do get throttled after 5 (i think), but im on sky MAX, i shouldnt be gettin this low speed as sky MAX use LLU it shouldnt be throttled, this has only just happened to me tonight, when i was connected at 7 meg or less i never have a problem, but 2day my router hit 8.2mbps the fastest yet, and i have the same problem as you!

      Re: No Bandwidth at Night

im on max/unlimited, on Chatham exchange NMED, awful routing (im 2km from it, but the line itself is 6km to it lol), for the last week ive been getting what at 1st glance looks like a capped service but its deeper than that.

      whats happened to my service?

the lines damaged btwn my house and the exchange, causing massive packet loss during peak times/bad latency, slow speed etc. possible dmg due to weather extremes. engi coming out 2morro

Funkstar, Yes, if you don't mind moving all your telephone services to Talk Talkm they are the best option as long as you can get on their LLU package.

Other than them then you should look at:- Plusnet, Zen & IdNet, although these all use BT's network, they do a good job in managing it.

My exchange doesn't have Sky / Easynet LLU. Is it worth while upgrade to Unlimited?

      Re: No Bandwidth at Night

You cannot get Unlimited, that is only available on a Sky enabled LLU exchange.

Your only available Sky package is Sky Connect.

      Re: No Bandwidth at Night

TalkTalk have improved greatly over the past years. When they first launched offering a free router and virtually free broadband they were swamped with applications and made a mess of some them. That got them a bad name which they are finding hard to live down. There support is probably on par with Sky, ie, they say very good until you need them.

My neighbour and a few friends have TT and are more than pleased with them. Her phone failed once and when she called the Support from my phone to report it, she was told she must report it on her own line so they could test it (I thought she had dialled Sky be mistake) On my advice she hung up and called back, this time she got through to a non-airhead and the phone was fixed within twelve hours.

You will probably be better off with TalkTalk than any of the rebadged BT products.
