Secure Site (https) access blocked ?

      Hi,

I have just moved onto Sky BB and can now no longer access some https or secure websites !
I have two laptops at home a new one and a work one, I can get access to these sites through my VPN Client using the work laptop and also when I use mobile broadband on the personal laptop, its just blocked when I try to access with no VPN through my Sky broadband.

I had no issues with the VirginMedia BB I had before, the websites are an American Express log in page and a webmail page, I can log into other webmail pages that are https but not this particular one !
Yes I have checked spellings of pages on numerous occasions, I am just using the same links I have used for years.
I am able to log into other banking sites and other https sites .. its a mystery !

I have made sure https ports are enabled in my firewalls and even tried adding them to the router this didnt work. I have tried settings in IE (Version 8 on home PC, verison 6 on work PC). nothing works there either.

Does anyone have any ideas ! I am at a bit of a loss

      Thanks in advance.

Have you tried a different browser, eg, firefox or chrome?

If you must use IE try this -
Configure Security settings for the Trusted sites zone in IE
      Tools> Internet Options>Security tab, select Trusted sites>Default Level>Sites
Enter the address (URL) of the site in the Add this Web site to the zone: box,
      Click Add
      , Apply, OK.

I am surprised any one is still using IE6, it is full of security holes. It really should be upgraded.

One other thing that can cause this is your MTU size. I know banking and other secure sites can have these problems due to MTU size.
Make sure your router and PC have the same size MTU value. Experiment on MTU size.
You may find this info handy MTU

      Thanks Chaps,

I havent tried another browser as I didnt have this issue before the Sky upgrade .

Adding the sites as trusted doesnt work either ..

IE6 is the work laptop .. nothing I can do about that one !!
Even the IE8 personal doesnt connect ..

Have you tried to contact these sites and tell them your having problems connecting to them ?. I did this with the Halifax, who where brilliant in helping sort the problem out. Which was down to MTU value.

Joss .. your half a star ! Thank you.

Changing (reducing) MTU setting on my router means I can now access the American Express site from all computers.

Still the problem with the Outlook Web access though ..

Re: Secure Site (https) access blocked ?

had this problem on wifes comp, was simple case of going into the setup and setting the time and date to where it should be, as the certificates on the sites that were blocked were in the future from the date the bios had reset to
only reason the clock had reset was because i took her pc apart and rebuilt it with a new gfx card in and new ethernet adapter
