      New Usage Calculator

Logged onto the new Usage calculator on "my sky" to discover in the space of 2 days that approx 30 gigs of downloading has been used by my account.

The internet is left on for approx 12 hours a day just for viewing web sites and I play about 30 mins of PS3 network per day. I dont download anything.

Is the usage calculsator rubbish or has someone hacked my wirless network.

      Any ideas?

      Re: New Usage Calculator

even looking at web pages uses download usage
gaming is heavy on usage content, its not only what you physically download which is monitored

      Re: New Usage Calculator

There is no way you could possibly use 30Gb in a few days if you were just browsing and gaming. Is your wireless secure? If you don't use it turn it off.

There is another report on the Sky meter reporting very high, it may be having teething troubles.

      Re: New Usage Calculator

I've download about 3.5Gb of media and my children play some games online,
usage meter says I've download 11.74Gb
      My network is secure.

I find it a bit hard to believe that surfing, gaming and emails add up to over 8Gb after only 7days.

I think you should communicate your concerns to Sky via https://mysky.sky.com/portal/site/sk...contactus/kana just so you have a record. There is obviously something wrong with the meter.

      Re: New Usage Calculator

I've found the amount the usage tool shows exceeds that shown on the Sky User Bandwidth Meter

I turned off the wireless signal on the router and disconnected all but two desktop PC's. I then installed Bandwidth Meter on both and reset the counters. After 24 hours the usage tool shows I have used another 0.10GB whereas the Bandwidth Meter shows only 53.20MB (17.29+35.91). Almost twice the usage!

Based on Sky's figures they would upgrade me to Everyday whereas the Bandwidth Meter shows I would be within my 2GB Basic allowance

      Be, here I come!

Is it possible it rounds up to the nearest 100mb?

      Re: New Usage Calculator

The usage tool quotes to 2 decimal places. It went from 1.23GB to 1.33GB so it might round up to the nearest 10MB.

      Re: New Usage Calculator

I would suggest that anyone who is getting crazy results check them against at least 2 other meters. For any one who needs them, these are 2 good ones.-

      http://www.bandwidth-meter.net/
Download NetMeter 1.1.4 Beta 4 / 1.1.3 - A handy network software that will monitor your bandwidth - Softpedia

Keep clear logs of the usage should they be needed.

These will have to be installed on all your machines.

      Re: New Usage Calculator

I already have this one running:
      http://www.bandwidth-meter.net/

I installed this one, as suggested:
Download NetMeter 1.1.4 Beta 4 / 1.1.3 - A handy network software that will monitor your bandwidth - Softpedia

I found it showed much more usage. On resetting the Bandwidth meter to NOT "Ignore LAN traffic" it shows the same amount of usage so presumably that means the second one isn't really enabling you to monitor just your internet usage.
