Usage between a little and a lot. Some gaming in the evening.

You're on LLU - you won't be effected by any traffic shaping. If your speed has went down, if you can create a new thread with router stats (link below) from your normal telephone socket position and then plug into your test socket (link also below) and re-take the stats for some help.

How to get your router statistics

How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

Thanks, I'll try the test socket later this morning. I already ran the router stats last night.

      Re: Slow speed on Unlimited.

      One thing I've realised.

I have a telephone lead extended to the PC upstairs. I take it that could cause problems?

Would it make it easier/better to move the router downstairs and have an extension for the network cable instead?

Standard telephone leads are never good for broadband. Plug your router into the Test socket and post your stats later. Don't use anything except the supplied cable. An RJ45 network cable to your PC will give you a much better performance.

Here's the results from the test socket.

      Speeds look no better.

Just to add. I've ran the router straight into the socket, no extension

      Re: Slow speed on Unlimited.

That is strange, a large drop in attenuation, a small drop in noise and no change in the speed. I would have expected the speed to remain the same, but I would also have expected a rise in the noise margin, especially with a drop in the attenuation.

Can you check that any extensions you have are dead when the faceplate is removed?

Do you have an alarm phone monitor connected to the line?

If the answer to these is no, can you work the filter plug in and out of the socket and wiggle it about a few times and try again? A small squirt of WD$ on the plug is especially good if you have some. Deposits build up on the connections over time and these can cause a poor connection when you plug in a different plug.

      Re: Slow speed on Unlimited.

There was one extension on the phone line, but I removed that and plugged the router straight into the phone line test socket.

I've no way of checking the extension. There's no alarm phone monitor connected.

I've only had this connection 2 months. It was around the 12 meg speed when I tested ot on good days. It's been this bad for at least a week now.

I rang Sky tech support and they want to check the filter. Of course I couldn't flippin find the one that came with the box. So now I have to wait til they send one out. This is getting really depressing.

If you do not have a filter, how did you check it in the Test socket, a dial up modem lead? If you did, a filter is not going to help. Did you try the squirt, in ,out, wiggle to clear deposits?
