I've no way of checking the extension
Just noticed that bit. Do you have wires fixed to the back of the face plate? Don't you have a phone? If you don't you could use your router, just plug it in and see if it syncs with the exchange. It does not need to be connected to a PC, you will know if the light flickers and turns green.

Yes, there's wires in the back of the faceplate.
      Yes, I have a phone.

I need the phone line. So I can't really run the router straight from the socket.

      Re: Slow speed on Unlimited.

If you only have one fixed extension and have wires on the faceplate, it should be OK. Sometimes extensions are incorrectly wired to the A-B terminals on the backplate, which can badly effect broadband. As long as the incoming wires are securley fixed to the AB terminals, there is not much more you can do.

If you do have a dial up phone lead, the one from the Sky digibox would do, it might be worth trying it and taking the stats. This allows you to plug the router directly into the socket without using a filter. If you get the same result, it rules out a dodgy filter. If the speed and/or the noise margin improves it means the filter is faulty. This is only suggested as a test, as you would not be able to use a phone..

      Re: Slow speed on Unlimited.

Just off the phone with the customer support, who after a while put me through to the customer sollutions team.

He said there was "a lot of errors with this line"
"S and R values very low at 5"

After trying a couple of things, he managed to improve the speed, but there was errors and he says there's a fault with the face plate as the connection improved in the test socket.

I was advised to get the whole socket changed, but that's up to me apparently.

Anyone know how much BT charge to do this or is it something I can do?

I think that would have been SNR value, ie the noise margin. Repost your stats to see what they're getting at.
