      Speeds more than halved.

      Hi,
I can only get 1.5mb on my line. I can get 3.5 according to Sky, was 4.0MB but as the router was disconnecting they limited it to 1.5MB. Been fine for years but last few days it has slowed down.
As you can see the download speed is nearly as low as the upload speed.
Im not sure why it has slowed down from 1.5 to 0.5 Mb/s

I have unplugged all the phones in the house, so only the router is connected to the phone line. About a year and a half ago, guy did something to the telephone sockets so that the connection for the router got the best connection, im assuming he changed the master socket. He said the best connection in the house, was now the socket used for the router.

The statistics page is pasted below.

      Re: Speeds more than halved.

Do you have a test socket as in the link below. If so please connect your router to this as shown and repost your stats.

How to test your ADSL in the Master Socket

Make sure that only the router is connected usinhg the supplied cable and microfilter, don't use any other extension cables, adapters etc. If you're using a Sky TV box telephone cable splitter then remove this also.

      Re: Speeds more than halved.

Your last set od stats show that your internal wiring is dragging down your sync speed.

If you can leave the router connected there you will be able to get a much better speed.

When plugged into the TEST socket, ring Sky and tell them that you have repaired your line and could they remove the cap. Be warned if you do this and then put the router back in it's original position you will have problems again.

It would be worth fitting a filtered faceplate to stop this happening.

I think the line has been moved to ADSL2+ and it is finding problems.

If you have the white router, go here and click the Detailed Stats button and post the stats here.

      Re: Speeds more than halved.

you're capped, but it still doesn't show the sort of speeds that should be available...with a 56dB attenuation you should be seeing about 3Mbps but the max there says 1800kbps...

best try your test socket (if not already) and then repost...

Where is the capped bit? I thought i was capped at 10Mb/s.
I used to get a maxium of 1.5MB for about two years now, but its suddenly dropped.

My 2nd post, 3rd post in this thread is from the test socket, or do you need the extended results from the test socket?

Your line has a maximum rate of 3968kbps, with a speed of 512kbps so you are capped. You have an 'up to 10Mb' connection which means you can get any speed up to that. It does not mean you are capped at that.

I ask for your detailed stats to see what mode you are on. You are on ADSL2 which your line is having difficulty with. This is shown by the fact that even being capped so low, your line is still generating errors.

It is not easy, but your only chance of getting a decent speed back is to have your mode changed back to G.DMT (adsl1). Try asking Tier 1 if they will put you through to the Customer Solutions Team to have your line reconfigured.

You would be better plugged into the Test socket when you phone, this will give the best chance of getting your speed up. But you must understand, to keep your speed up you will have to fit and use a filtered faceplate or leave your router permanently plugged into the Test socket.

Why do i have to pay for something if its Sky's fault for messing with the settings?
They decrease the download limit 75% to, its a joke lol.
Would a lower cap, say to 2MB improve things?
Im doing networks at uni, but not quite understanding whats gone wrong.
Cant they decrease the margin the router syncs at?
They hardcoded it higher when the router kept disconncting, only giveing me the 1.5MB speed.
