It's your internal wiring that's causing the issue, which caused your connection to be capped, its not Sky's fault. Therefore it's your responsibilty to get this sorted to maximise your speed if that's what you want. Hence why the advice to purchase a filtered faceplate but that's entirely up to you.

How many extension sockets do you have and are they all wired of the current master socket faceplate? Try removing the ring wire, if not already done, from the faceplate - this is the one(s) connected to terminal 3, this may improve things from your normal router position.

What do you normally have connected to all your sockets?

I think it is Sky's fault as it has been working fine for over a year at 1.5MB just recently messed up, i have not changed anything.
Have the router connected to the master socket. One phone upstairs connected to a different filter. Then two wireless phones connected to one filter.

Sky have possibly ran DLM which has ended up capping your speed for stability reasons due to a problem at your end. If you speak to them you'll get the cap and lifted and get back your 1.5mbps, if you take our advice it's possible you'll see even greater speeds.

Have you removed the ring wire as advised? Do you have a Sky TV box connected to the phoneline?

Tbh 1.5mb is fine, thats what i had before.
Its just enough for online gaming, i would like higher but if its going to disconnect all the time then its ok with 1.5mb/s.

Can i plug the router into the master socket, and all the phones work. In the thread telling you how to use it, it says if the faceplate is removed the extensions wont work.
Dont know what the ring wire is.
No, the phone line next to the Sky box is being used by a phone, so when you reboot Sky it says to get full use of Sky.... make sure a phone line is enabled.

      Re: Speeds more than halved.

If you are happy to get less than half of the speed you could get, that's fine. Just plug in as you usually do phone Sky and ask them to reconfigure your line and you will probably get your old speed back. If you want to at least double your speed, do as we suggest and fit a filtered faceplate.

The ring wire is the wire connected to the No 3 terminal on your faceplate. It serves no purpose when using filters so you can safely remove it. It often causes problems and can reduce your speed considerably.

      Re: Speeds more than halved.

Your internal wiring/master socket faceplate is faulty. You have the option to stay in the test socket to get the line configured by sky to its best (but the extension sockets will cease to function) or you can buy a filtered faceplate and that will sort out the internal wiring issues, allow you to use the extension sockets and also eliminate the use of filters altogether.

When you open up the master socket the faceplate will have a number of wires from your extension sockets connected to it in positions 2,3,4 and 5. You only really need wires 2 and 5 connected and removing the ring wire at 3 may give you a significant increase speed (an increase in the noise margin for the moment), just pull the wire up and out of the connector. Once done you can carry on using the master socket from its normal position without having to purchase a filtered faceplate, although this is still recommended to fully optimise your connection.

Make sure where your Sky box was connected you still don't have the cable splitter plugged into the socket and then the microfilter plugged into that, the microfilter is the very first thing that should be plugged in.

Can i Use an I plate instead? Dont have to mess about with the wires then i think?
Might order one and ring Sky to sort it out. Cant even watch catchup programs on the internet with the speed currently its driving me mad

The iplate is not the same as a filtered faceplate and will only do the same as removing the ring wire which you can do yourself buy just pulling it out of terminal 3.

A filtered faceplate will ensure than none of the other internal wiring can have a detrimental effect on the signal.

I agree with Smithy, an iPlate is a waste of money. Get a filtered faceplate with the proper tool and your problems will be over( the ones caused by your internal wiring at least)
