Sky BB Unlimited upgrade to 20mb

A few months ago we received an email and letter that Sky were doing improvments for Sky Talk, and Sky BB etc.

It as all the ads now say Sky Broadband Unlimited is now upto 20mb.

The email i got said for the BB i could check via the sky website inder My Sky > Service Details.

It now only says "unavailable" .

Ive been on Sky Max for about 2 years (almost as soon as my exchange switched over to sky)

But my speed has never changed upt 20mb

DRM kicked in on my line a while ago as knocked it right down to 4mb, email sky who were helpful and and put it to 8-9mb (which was still lower that the 12mb-14mb i used to get )

Is the DRM that was done stopping the 20mb speed upgrade.

More than likely not. More than likely your attenuation (line length & quality of your line from your exchange) is the culprit for the speed you have. Post your stats:

Then post your stats from your test socket in comparison from where the router is at the moment; details below:

this is from the upstairs extension socket

Line Attenuation 36.5 db 20.9 db
Noise Margin 5.6 db 8.9 db

Ive not tried downstairs yet, but i could connect the router downstairs and use the laptop to see if there are any changes as the laptop is wireless where as the main PC connects to the router via network cable so the router needs to be upstairs.

You have a low SNR at the moment, so you're not going to push out more speed from the physical set-up at the minute. Your attenuation, however, would suggest around 13-14mb sync is perhaps possible. You're going to have to check where the noise is coming from that is drowning out the signal. Extension sockets are notorious for this, so do the following and we'll try and see where the issue lies -

Connect the router up to the master socket and get the stats via the laptop, and then if you have a test socket connect up to that and re-take the stats and post the comparison. When connecting up, just simply connect up a filter with the light grey ADSL cable sky supplied, no extension cables or the like in the set-up.
