      Speed issues

      Hi guys,

I have just made the jump from a standard Sky router, as it was constantly dropping (wired and wireless) and the download speeds would start off at 1.56mb/s and drop to as low as 150kb/s (when I first got the router it would stay around the 1.56mb/s during entire downloads). I have now purchased a Belkin F5D8635uk4A and the speed issue has not been fixed. I start off with download speeds around 2.04mb/s and it is dropping to 150kb/s!

      This is my router stats:

The speed issues are on wired and wireless. Any ideas? I am plugged directly into the engineers port on the phone socket.

      Cheers,

      Ross

      Re: Speed issues

Your upload attenuation looks very peculiar. Looks like a filter or line issue.

      Re: Speed issues

Thanks for the reply. I have rebooted my router numerous times since then (as I am trying to get Xbox live running) and the attenuation has changed to:

      Attenuation 34.4 13.4

      Re: Speed issues

Good. That looks more reasonable. But how are your speeds? Is the XBox live problem just configuring it with the new router, or was it a problem before?

      Re: Speed issues

Try a different filter to see if that helps the problem.

      Re: Speed issues

I'll just go put a new filter in now.

The Xbox problem is a new problem with this router. The Xbox is saying that the network has an insufficient MTU setting and it needs to be atleast 1364 but my router is set to 1500.

Be back in a few after I have fitted the new filter.

      Re: Speed issues

Are you connecting wirelessly to the XBox? I cannot see how MTU could be an issue if the XBox connects direct to the router. I don't recall any settings that you can change on the dashboard with respect to MTU. How is the new filter performing?

      Re: Speed issues

I have tried wireless and wired with the 360 and it is coming up with the mtu issue on both (tried it on the 2 360's in the house).

Unfortunately the new filter hasn't fixed the issue. It is still starting off at 2.24mb/s and then dropping within 10 seconds right down to 100k/s range.

Edit - The xbox issue is now fixed. Belkins own port forwarding instructions were completely wrong. This fixed it: http://www.portforward.com/english/r...x_Live_360.htm

Unfortunately the speed issue still stands

      Re: Speed issues

OK. How is your network configured? Is your main PC connecting straight to your router or through another network device? Ideally the XBox or PC should be straight to the router and out to the internet. Try this and see if the MTU issue continues. Ooops missed your edited post!

      Re: Speed issues

Re-reading your initial post has got me curious. What type of downloads are we talking about?
Are they from a website or p2p type downloads?
