      Some questions about Sky Broadband

      Hi all,

I have just got my mac code for my current useless supplier & I was wondering if anyone can help me with a few things.

When I signed up to Sky Tv last week, I said that I might be interested in signing up to Sky Broadband Max, they sent me an email saying welcome to Sky Broadband but as I haven't actually got any equipment from them & I haven't given them my mac code to get connected to the service, am I right in thinking that I am not officially under contract yet ?

Second thing is that on various sites I have read a lot of nightmare stories to do with this new DLM thing that Sky are using & that peoples speeds have been going really bad. Are these things easily fixed or do they require a really long phone call.

Whilst on the speed questions, during busy times how bad does the speed get on max, does it interfere with with iplayer, youtube etc etc.

Anyone here who can advise ?

      Many Thanks

      JWAR

Re: Some questions about Sky Broadband

If you can get on Sky LLU then you will have no download limits and no traffic shaping or throttling so no slow downs there are no other suppliers out there who can offer this, the closest will be O2/Be.

DLM runs at the beginning to establish the fastest stable speed for your line, 9 times out of 10 this goes without a problem, you just need to remember to leave the router plugged in and turned on.

I would certainly recommend SKY LLU (everyday or Unlimited) but under no circumstances take Sky Connect.

      Thanks Smithy,

After having various disasterous contracts with providers in the past, I am not to keen signing to Sky Broadband for a whole year incase I wasn't getting my monies worth. My current provider which is an ADSL2+, really does take the mick & give me insulting speeds so have finally got my mac from them

There is a new company on the scene called Xilo & they have offered me a LLU connection for 20 per month with a 20:1 contention ratio but they want to charge me 40 to do work on my exchange, which is quite off putting but doesn't seem as bad if I am going to get a lot of slowdowns thru Sky which doesn't seem to be the case.

If you can get Sky LLU then do so, it is better than just about anything out there.

I'm not sure why you would want to go with a new company without a track record.

You raise a good point there & the only things that tempted me were the good reviews they were getting so far, along with the good contention ratio & monthly contract.

I will give Sky a call tonight & give them the mac code as the sooner I am away from my current laughable provider, the better.

Hi I have just had a look at the exchanges for Norwich which has 3 exchanges. Norwich City, Norwich North and Norwich West. All have Sky LLU but as Smithy99 says make sure you get on to one of the LLU packages

      Thanks Steve,

I have done a check & have found that I am on the Norwich City exchange. Could you tell me what I need to do to make sure that I am on the LLU based service ?.

Re: Some questions about Sky Broadband

Put your details in the Sky checker, as long as it says that any of the LLU products are available then your good to go.

The only reason you wouldn't get the LLU on a Sky enabled exchange is if all the lines were already in use. You can also double check when you are ordering it but you should be fine.

      Thanks again Smithy,

I have just used the exchange check on this site & it says that the postcode is ok and that BT estimated speed is 9mbps (current downstream is 15mbps) but the phone no lookup has failed .

Re: Some questions about Sky Broadband

Don't worry, order it and get them to confirm you will be on Sky Unlimited.
