      Sky Broadband Started Disconnecting

      I got my sky broadband unlimited in august this year and up until about 2 weeks ago its been brilliant, 19mb dl and 1.3 mb ul (live less than a mile from the exchange). Anyway about 2 weeks ago the router started to disconnect at random times of between 5 mins to 7 hours. Spoke to sky and the sent me a new router (netgear, 1st was a sagem) and its still no better, today its been the worst yet, its been disconnecting a lot more and is starting to get on my nerves.

      I spoke to sky again on friday and they are going to send out an engineer to check the line, but they told me to expect that the results be ok and that they will more the next step would be to switch the port in the exchange and then if still no better reduce my speed. Now to me this seems incorrect as before I was on by (with no problems) at 8mb and for 2 months with sky I was working fine, other than 2 weeks ago when it all started to go wrong. They last guy that called me back said that it could be line degradation, but that seems to be excessive degradation in the space of 2 weeks dont ya think ? Any of you guys got any advice or ideas ?

      How are you connecting - wireless or ethernet?

      If its wireless are you sure the router is disconnecting or is it simply your pc/laptop losing the wireless connection?

      Its deffo the router losing connectivity as the log says "lost sync reconnecting"

      Did they try capping the line slightly to check whether you were still dropping sync at all?

      No not yet but even when it syncs at 14mb it still loses sync

      Ah, I see. In that case all I could suggest is just hold out for BTO engineer and hopefully finds the issue straight off from the first appointment. I know that's a very generic reply, but if it's still dropping out whilst in the test socket with the new cpe then all you can do is wait for the issue to be found, mate. I mean, out of curiosity, if you can throw up a set of stats - preferably from the test socket. Get a set before and after a re-sync to see the differences just.
