      BT Data Out of Date

      Hello,

I have been reading that BT's estimated speeds are out of date. I have checked and it does report that our line is only capable of 4mb and thats what we are getting presuming Sky use the same data.

Is there a way to check or tell Sky to increase the speed? Has anyone done this?

      Thank you.

What you are getting and the BT estimate are two different things. The estimate is just that, what you are able to sync at is the main thing. Did you call Sky and ask them to reconfigure your line when you had it fixed. Your line should be capable of 6+Mb.

They tried reconfiguring it but due to my phone line being damaged, the speed's didn't work fine so they brought it down. Can I ask them to increase my speed?

If my noise margin is 7.2db for the Downstream - will increasing the speed bring it down even more? My stats are:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5472 kbps 800 kbps
Line Attenuation 46.0 db 28.5 db
Noise Margin 7.3 db 16.0 db

If your phone line is damaged then you need ot get BT (if you pay bt your line rental) to fix the damage.

Re: BT Data Out of Date

This is an extract from your last thread.
The problem has been sorted The phone line outside was corroded and has been replaced. Current stats from the router:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5472 kbps 800 kbps
Line Attenuation 46.0 db 28.5 db
Noise Margin 12.1 db 15.0 db
It appears your noise margin has dropped again, so you are going to have to rule out internal problems again by plugging into you Test socket. As things stand you are capped at 5472, which is as much as your line can give.

Re: BT Data Out of Date

Not much difference between the two so you are getting near your maximum stable speed, if you're lucky you may get another 1mb.
