      always useful to:

      a) stick to an original thread with the history or
      b) say that you had a problem, but it was fixed instead of just saying you have a problem.

I'll bow out of this as I haven't read your other thread.

Do you have phone extensions? When you had the faceplate off, were they all dead?

What do you mean by phone extensions?

Little boxes fixed to the wall, usually cream coloured, into which you can plug a phone. They should be wired to the faceplate of the Master socket, but in some cases are incorrectly fitted.

For that phone number / line, I only have one socket which is the mastersocket.

So when you connected to the Test socket did you use a plug in extension to connect the router? This would account for the stats being the same. You really need to plug the router in with the supplied cable only to get a true reading. If you did this, it looks like a fault on your external line, which can be very difficult to get fixed.

I connected the router directly to the test socket using a RJ11 cable. I do not use any extensions.

It looks like your external line might not be too good and there is no more room for improvement. You could phone Sky and ask them is you can get a bit more speed. You have enough spare noise margin to take you over 6Mb, but they may feel you need it to keep your line stable. You can only try, it depends a lot on the agent you get through to.

Re: BT Data Out of Date

I was transferred onto Sky's new network just over a week ago. I phoned twice and asked if my line was running at its max... then 8.1 meg. I was told my line wasn't capable of any more. At the same time, I emailed Sky and asked the same question. I had a reply today and Sky have boosted my speed to just over 10 meg - it depends who you speak to and what mood they're in I think! Keep trying until you have someone nice respond!
