Question about possible speed on Max

      Hi all,

I have had it with my current isp with their alt tool being on more or less 24/7, to the point where I don't get a fraction of the speed that my line can handle . & so I am thinking of transferring to Sky Max. I was wondering if I will get the roughly the same speeds as what my router stats show or if Sky, work on a different system ?.

      DownStream Connection Speed 15227 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 855 kbps

      Many Thanks

      JWAR

You need to post your attenuation and noise margin figures to be sure but unless there are issues you should see the same speed (15-16Mb). Is Sky LLU available in your exchange?

      Hi there,

      Here are my current stats,

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15227 kbps 855 kbps
Line Attenuation 18 db 4.5 db
Noise Margin 14 db 6 db

I done a check & yes LLU for Sky is in my area, but don't know that much about it.

You could potentially push near to the 20mbps that the unlimited package offers on sky LLU with those stats.

One thing you should be aware of is that Sky supply domestic broadband, they specifically exclude business use in their T&Cs. If you depend on broadband for your business, you would be well advised to look elsewhere.

Thanks for the tip but I don't have a business sadly & am only a home user.

Then get yourself on to Sky, you will get much more speed, no bandwidth shaping and an unlimited download allowance. Make sure you are going on to Sky's LLU service though, don't even consider Connect.

I have heard a few bad things to do with the connect service from a few sites.

Am I right in thinking that when I sign up to the max package, I will automatically be put on the LLU system ?, or do I need to do something else ?.

If you ask for Max / Unlimited then you would have to be on LLU to receive it. Only Connect is not an LLU product.

Re: Question about possible speed on Max

You should, but there have been quite a few instances in the past where a user thought they were signing up for Max and ended up on Connect as no places were available at the exchange.
Put your phone number in the box on this page and that should tell you if there are LLU places available.
