      Line Noise

      Hello,

I recently upgraded from Base to Everyday with Sky.
After upgrading the internet I noticed that I was only getting 3MBps although my ping had decreased from 100 to 48.
I rang them and had to go through several people to find one that could understand me. After about an hour and a half waiting they told me that they'd ring me back at between 4pm-7pm. They did. They said 4mbps is all my line could hold and so I accepted that but asked why, they said it's because I live 4km from the exchange, which is wrong because the only 2 exchanges are 10km and 2.5km away, I have been told this by somebody else in sky. Anyway they said it was because I live 4km from the exchange and have quite bad Line Attenuation.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4477 kbps 409 kbps
Line Attenuation 51.5 db 33.8 db
Noise Margin 6.8 db 14.0 db

It does seem quite high, but since they put it up to 4.5MBps my ping has increased to 80, and the upload speed has decreased from 606 to 409.

What I'm wondering is what can I do to my line or whatever I need to do, to decrease my Line Attenuation/Noise Margin/Ping/Etc. Without ringing sky?
      If it's possible that is..

      Thanks,
      Tisy0

      Re: Line Noise

Connect ot the test socket if you have one, link below in my sig with details, then repost the stats on here. You are looking for and increase in the noise margin as the speed is capped, if the noise margin increases then you would benifit from a filtered faceplate,

If you don't have a Test socket, unplug everything you have plugged into the telephone boxes in your house and plug the router into the master socket on its own and take the stats.
