      Trouble Accessing Most Websites

      Hi,

I've just gone live with Sky Max about a week ago.
All has been well except for today.

On about 4 occasions so far, My internet connection has dropped.... or so I thought.
On each occasion, I could still access Sky.com, and usually skyuser.co.uk, but I couldn't access Google, Microsoft, BBC, 888.com or a number of other sites.

The router (DG934G) reverse DNS lookup utility returns a correct IP Address, but I am unable to ping the address using the router.

The SkyTest utility is also failing.

When this occurs, if I tracert sky.com, all steps succeed.
However, if I tracert google.com, I can only get to the ADSL IP of the router.

A disconnect / reconnect doesn't usually resolve it.
      A reboot doesn't either.
I usually keep power cycling and rebooting and eventually it comes back up.

I've had a look around on this forum and I've seen some old posts about websites being inaccessible. However this seems slightly different (or maybe not)

      Any ideas what is happening?

Also, is there anywhere on the Sky.com website that informs me of service outages or anything like that?

      Thank you
      Steve

If you ping google.co.uk via cmd, do you get 100% loss? How about if you try and browse this: 209.85.229.104?

I'd try manually setting your DNS servers either to 192.168.0.1 or using openDNS. Failing this, what firewall do you have?

Regarding outtages - I believe there were none at all listed today.

      Hiya,

Yeah, 100% loss when pinging by name and by IP Address
Also, the Router was getting 100% loss by name.

If the router can't ping the site by name, and if my pc is failing when pinging by name and IP, then I can't see that changing the DNS server will help.

I'm using Windows firewall on this machine, but my other machine doesn't have any firewall.
Besides, if it was firewall, surely it would work when pinging from the router.

01603 is the Norfolk area and I'm guessing you're OffNet (Connect)?...

Seems to be a few issues regarding the SE of England tonight, quite a few tickets coming through for browsing issues or no IP...

ok, so it's most likely a Sky issue rather than a router one.

      Cool.

Does the Sky site have a service status section that would show something like this?
