Can you take some photos of the rear of both faceplates?

Ensure you have only connected terminals 2 & 5 either end and that the coloured wire to 2 & 5 is the same both ends.

      Re: Degraded downstream after rewire

      Hi
      Your stats don't look good!

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 567 kbps 131 kbps
Line Attenuation 55 db 59 db
Noise Margin 8 db 7 db

What was Your Line Attenuation before you made changes to the wires and socket?
      Also your SNR margin ?
What was your setup prior to this?

Is your downstairs socket your master socket? is it of the NTE5 split face type with the test socket behind the lower removable front plate?

How have you wired in the extension upstairs ? and what cable have you used for this extension?

Please give as much detail as possible. Also if you do have an NTE5 then a set of stats taken from the test socket would be helpful. This would eliminate any extensions in the circuit.

There must be something seriously wrong if he was getting 12mb before

Oh yeah I would say so. See what he comes back with. Though with a line attenuation of 55db he would get no where near 12MB sync.

I would conect to the test socket and try that, if you did have 12Mb before then there is alot of noise coming from somewhere or a bad line fault.

      Re: Degraded downstream after rewire

Thanks all for replies. Setup previously was exactly the same, rewire needed as the wife likes to park the pram right where the main box sits and continues to bump against pulling out the wires which run upstairs.

only change made by myself was to change the colour of wires connected at each faceplate. ensured connection on each faceplate was sound.

one thing i have noticed from Smithy99's advice, ensure 2 & 5 are connected , think it might have been 3 & 5 which I reconnected at each faceplate, would this explain the dodgy downstream ?

      appredciated

      cheers

Rewire then to 2 and 5, that may be the source of the problem.
