      no problem...

This is the one that would be the master socket that I origionally opened and plugged the router into and it failed to show up anything in the connection settings...

      http://img29.imageshack.us/i/cimg0328j.jpg/

      Inside of it

      http://img43.imageshack.us/i/cimg0329b.jpg/

took the upper cover off and it appears to be just the wiring and nothing connected...

      http://img43.imageshack.us/i/cimg0330g.jpg/

back of the first cover i removed which resembles that of the one from the guide

      Imageshack - cimg0331b

this is the socket that the internet and phone works from, the extension cable runs through the wall into the room behind it to my filter which in turn goes the the phone and adsl cable to the router

      Imageshack - cimg0325h

I didnt take the cover off of this one as i did it earlier and there is nothing behind it except wiring like one of the previous pictures, but it is all wired up...

      Hope this helps!

Can you trace where the external BT cable come in and follow it to the first socket it enters, this should be the master.

How is the socket that you have the extension lead connected up to the others?

I've read your posts and still a bit confused about your setup and the first 3 links don't work, you need to add a '/' at the end of each. The last image shows a soclet with an extension cable connected to it, the very first thing that should be plugged into any of your sockets in use is a microfilter.

Neil, he cannot do that as the extension goes to his router. He should ensure that nothing else uses those two outputs though.

I think his extension may be wired directly to the a&b terminals on the rear of the master because there is nothing connected to 2 & 5 yet he has an extension.

On the third photo, are there any wires connected to terminals a & b?

Re: New to Sky need some help

strange they are working for me... I have put the / into them as well...

nothing is connected to the to slots at the front of the extension cable... this leads through the wall to another little socket thing which connects to the filter which goes to the router... this house is a mess of wires come to think of it... but when i plugged it into the origional socket where the extension is just by the filter into the router, there was pretty much no difference what so ever in the statistics? I think Smithy is right in thinking this socket is wired up to the master socket but i really have no idea

Which are connected to the two screw terminals on the back, yes?

It looks as if someone, instead of replacing the old master socket with an NTE5, has gone through the more legit method of wiring an NTE5 off from the master - as in this http://www.clarity.it/telecoms/nte5.htm. Can you get a dial tone from this socket?

Re: New to Sky need some help

Hi neil I have no actual way of testing this socket as theres not another phone lying around thats not pinned to the walls grrr... but I'm pretty positive i can't get a dial tone from the socket... also with the diagram you gave, this does look like how it appears to be... I am unable to trace the wiring as it appears to go into the wall, which in turn will go into the foundations of my home, which for a small guy, im actually not small enough to get into the crawl space lol

I'm pretty sure this is the master socket as there is one phone in the kitchen and an unused socket in our master bedroom as the cordless phone base is located beside me and one of the cordless phones is up there
