      Re: Who to believe

Try these, they are shipped with some BT packages and so people who don't need them sometimes sell them on at a good price.

Remember, you will need at least two, one to connect the router and the other for the PC, you can then just keep adding them as required and there just about as good as an ethernet lead.

Does this create an amplified wireless?

We have 2 PC's and 2 Xbox's feeding off one router how would that work out?

      Re: Who to believe

      No not wireless at all.

What it does is use your mains wiring as ethernet, so any plug socket with one of these adaptors in becomes a network point.

They will even work in sheds, garages anywhere where the home mains wiring is.

If you wanted to connect everything else up then you would need one adaptor for each thing or if there are a couple of thins in the same vacinity you could use a small hub.

You can also do both, wireless for laptops using the router and homeplugs for things that need a faster and stable connection.

I have 3, one at the router, one for PC and one for the x-box.

I now do not have any connection issues like before when using wireless and the gaming is 100% better with no lag or dropouts caused by poor wireless signals or interference.

      Re: Who to believe

gotta ask something, do you only need one at the router (via 1 Ethernet port) and the router still gives out individual IPs?...always wondered how you set them up...

Yes, all they do create a LAN via your mains wiring. So you plug one into the router and the other into a PC somewhere else in the house and the router will assign an IP.

      Re: Who to believe

Today, I tested again with the PC ( you know the one with the 10 metres of underfloor telephone cable connected to my router and then 3 metres of cat5 from my router to my PC)

      And look at this.....

      I give up

      Re: Who to believe

You can also connect a switch or even a wireless router to the second plug to give access for more than one machine. You can also use a wireless access plug such as this to make laptop connection easier. Solwise PL-85PEW HomePlug 85Mbps Wireless-G Extender - NET-PL-85PEW_MK2
