      Re: Sky connect issues

well its typical though the one time i want to show how bad my connection is at night time and it ends up being as fast as its ever been at that time,i just calling it luck though as i havnt attempted to go online on xbox recently since the problem occured plus IDNet offer a good service for the same price without throttling so i think i still gonna get out of connect hopefully and get on their service.

another thing,i dont know how reliable the results are but on speedtest.net site i ran 4 tests 1 straight after the other and i got something like 6.5 3.6 5.2 and 4.5meg,does this show my connection is fluctuating in speed alot?

would like to know if anyone has any experience of IDNet,thanks.

speedtest.net is notorious as unreliable...the BT PTTR test is the best one as it records the results at BTs end so should Sky do anything they can see the tests...in your case though don't bother calling as if it's just slow during peak hours there's nothing Sky will do...

      Re: Sky connect issues

but its not slow just during peak hours its atrocious i.e. 25-100k sometimes or i have an orange light on the router internet icon so i cant get on period, its totally random as to when and what speed i get.

next thing was i read in other threads bout people finding it easy or having problems getting their mac code from their isp and that if you do ask you shouldnt mention that you want to cancel your membership? but surely asking for your mac code would be the only reason to have it in the first place?

migrating has no downtime...cancelling and reordering somewhere else would lead to at least 2 weeks downtime...

The Ofcom regulations specifically state that getting a MAC is not notice to cancel. If you say you want to cancel, the chances are they will put it into immediate effect, meaning you cannot get a MAC. This has happened before. Do not mention cancelling when you ask for the MAC and if you are asked if you want to, say no. When the MAC is accepted by another iSP is soon enough to give notice. As IANTE says, it can take at least 2 weeks, or more, if you do not have a MAC

      Re: Sky connect issues

ok thanks for all your replys, firstly though to run through the convo with sky when i ask for my mac code, what do i say when they ask why i want it?

also if i get the mac code and give it to my other chosen isp, do they have to wait for sky to cancel the service before they can get me up and running? i mean can sky refuse to cancel the contract? i read in the terms or summin else that if i feel i am not getting a acceptable service then that is reason enough to cancel without being charged the remainder of the contract?

      Re: Sky connect issues

the MAC code means there's no downtime...you give it to your new ISP and they deal with cancelling the Sky Connect and activating your new service...no downtime...

as to what u tell Sky - that's up to you really!!!

      Re: Sky connect issues

Migrating is easy, ring them up, ask for a MAC, if they ask why, just tell them you're not happy with the speeds during peak. Note down the MAC, ring the ISP you want to switch to, tell them what package you want and that you have a MAC, give them the MAC and just let them do all the work, you will recieve a new router (if it's included in the package, if not you will need to buy your own if you want Wireless), and a letter saying your new ISP is active.

Have a look at DMB's experience in this thread for a bit of guidance.
