      BB Max upgrade = downgrade??

      Hi.

      I've been looking on this forum for the past few weeks because my dl speed has dropped from an average 5000 - 5500kbps to around 3696 - 4095kbps?!

      My upload speed has increased a small amount to 768kbps from around 740ish.. i think.

      Also i'm not staying connected for more than a day or two, whereas before i could be 'up' for anything upto eight hundred hours or more....

      I've looked on the 'my sky' page and line testing has not been on the line over the past few weeks i've had the slow down.
      Also on that page it says;
      Speed Estimate

      When you purchased Sky Broadband, we estimated that the maximum download speed for your line was: 1.0Mb

      Now that's cobblers, because when i signed for sky they said i'd get around 4-ish Mb, maybe a little more. So why has there estimate suddenly dropped so low?

      I've just run a couple of tests...

      Here is a pic of stats from the test socket;
      BB Max upgrade = downgrade??-test.jpg

      And here's the main socket stats..
      BB Max upgrade = downgrade??-main.jpg

      Pretty similar really...

      So can anyone give me any guidance as to what to say to the bods at sky?? Please?!....

      Ta in advance for any info

      When you say main socket, is theis the TEST socket (you have to remove the front off the master socket it to access it), see sig for details.

      If that is the test socket it isn't looking good.

      I suspect you have been moved to ADSL2+ and it is not suiting your line. To confirm this, if you have the DG834GT, go here MelsNotes click the Detailed Stats button and copy and paste the results here. Don't bother about the Ping section.

      Yes, you have been put on ADSL2 which doesn't like your line. You are going to have to ring Sky and ask to be put back on G.DMT.

      Re: BB Max upgrade = downgrade??

      As Smithy says you will have to phone Sky. Unfortunately, unless you are very lucky the agent you get on Tier 1 will not have a clue what you are talking about. If this is the case, tell them you would like to be passed to CST to have your Delay reduced. When you get there, tell the agent that you would like to be moved back to G.DMT as ADSL2+ is not working well on your line. If your a gamer you can get your delay reduced at the same time. If your not, don't bother as it can make your line unstable.

      Ladies & Gentlemen please welcome to the stage...

      Hooray For Everything

      Just got off the phone to sky... and after a bit(lot) of talking the bloke finally contacted cst and got me switched from ADSL2+

      He did tell me that my line could only handle 1Meg!! i said lies!!
      He said that i couldn't be switched back to G.DMT... i said ... are you sure..
      He said that he couldn't put me through to cst because i didn't have a ticket number...!! i didn't say anything..

      But using the max delays technique he finally contacted cst himself, and now the interwebs is back to the speed i remember...
      BB Max upgrade = downgrade??-beterrrr.jpg

      The upload speed is actually better

      So to Smithy99 & especially Isitme for the max delays idea... this is for you
      BB Max upgrade = downgrade??-awsmi.jpg

      btw... the bloke on the phone said that i should turn my router off overnight because it'll get to hot!?!? and that it has a fan in it??!!
      Does the Netgear have a fan in it??

      Surely the CST guy did not say that? Provided it is stood upright on its stand it will not get too hot. If it has a fan in it it must be a very small quiet one

      Good result by the way

      It is also invisible because when I opened my router up I couldn't see it
