      modem/router combos

      does anyone know what the best modem router there is ive looked at the belkin n1 vision actually a few belkins as they seem to be the ones that do alot of modem routers. my connection is through a telephone line not a ethernet line for cable so what modem routers do people recommend and please dont tell me the sky router cause its a load of crap ive had to reset it a few times due to lock up be greatful

      mines never locked up, but ive come back home and internet has been dead, like nothings going through it, had to restart the router to fix it, but i wud go with a netegar router, possibly a DG834GT or something similar

      Post your router stats.

      If the router is locking up it is more than likely the line is noisey and you have errors building up. If it was the Sky supplied routers then everyone would be having the same problems.

      That said, the Billion routers seem to have the same chipset as the Sky exchange equipment and will give a better/faster connection but this is still dependant on line conditions.

      Connection Speed 17021 kbps 1044 kbps
      Line Attenuation 18 db 8 db
      Noise Margin 11 db 8 db

      I suspect you have internal wiring issues, get the stats from the test socket, you should easily get 20mb with your attenuation.

      Connect the router to the test socket and then use wireless to get the stats.

      i would but i dont want to disrupt everything as its a faff to put right so what is the best modem/ router combo if i wanted a cable router would i have to get a seperate modem or can i just connect to any modem/router as il be replacing my sky router as its tripe then il probably get a dual band one for my xbox and ps3

      Don't blame the router then. Your internal wiring could be causing the problem and it would not matter if you spent 5000 on a top end CISCO router, the result would be the same.

      For your gaming machines you would be far better setting up a wired network. 99 times out of a hundred it will outperform wireless.

      oh i see but i paid 50 60 pound for the wireless adapter for my 360 seems a waste to bin it
