Slow, slow, slow, slow, drop, slow

      Hi folks,

It seems to be a common topic at the moment so I'm sorry if its just another speed question.

Over the past few weeks I've gone from having a stable 2.4mb connection and no drop outs to constant random drop outs and a reduced speed of 1.3mb.

So far I've called Sky 4 times, I've been told to replace the master box, which I've done. Didn't make a difference. The last call resulted in the advisor adding 400k to the line speed, which means nothing to me. He said they couldn't increase it any further as it'd make the line unstable and advised that I get the master box independantely checked, why I dont know. It has improved as you'd expect but is still dropping out and it aint the 2.4mb I had a few weeks back.

I asked why my connection had gone bad and he went on and on and didn't make any sense. A simple answer would have done, but it was clear he couldn't supply one.

I just want my old connection back, any advice on what to say when I ring again? I'm no techy so I'd be grateful of simple speak

I'm currently using Vista if that helps.

      Cheers

you need to post your line stats, log in to 192.168.0.1(username: admin and password: sky) and click on the statistics button towards the bottom of the page. did you replace your master socket yourself?? if you could post up some info regarding the setup of your broadband that would also be useful(any extensions, filter setup etc)

Also, log into the My Sky website and see if line training is taking place.

Re: Slow, slow, slow, slow, drop, slow

      Thanks for the reply.

Stats: - Connection speed 1842 down. Up 409
Line attenuation 66.0 db down. Up 42 db
Noise margin 7.2 db down. Up 9.5 db

      Hope thats enough.

I've done the master socket myself and have changed it a total of three times, all three gave the same results. The master uses a ADSL nation front. Upstairs is another socket, this is filtered. I've removed this and it didn't change a thing. I use a laptop, which is run via wireless, if I hardwire it I get the same results.

      Hope this helps.

My bet is that DLM has ran as some stage and you have now been put on the ADSL2 profile which hates long lines like yours.

You need to speak to Sky and if you can get to CST they can then reprofile your line back onto G.DMT and manually configure it to be stable.

Ok I'll give it a try. I take it they'll understand what I'm on about and not think I'm being a smart a*se.
