Oh, and where can I download the Sky firmware that I just replaced, should I want to?
No reason why you should want to as you still have the original firmware, with some useful additions.

Now you can try some experiments with your noise margin. At the moment it will be set to 6.9dbs, you could change this gradually to give you a lower default which should allow you to sync higher. Don't over do it, try dropping it by half a db at a time is plenty.

You can also set the router to use OpenDNS servers, tick the Fixed DNS servers box and put in 208.67.222.222
      208.67.220.220
This can speed up the rate you connect to a page on the Web, it will not improve your download speed, but can make surfing faster.

Got another email from Sky support today, they have put me manually on G.DMT at 2.8 meg - I presume this means that I can't set the router to go onto ADSL2 now, if I wanted to?

      That is correct.

Re: Half speed - has DLM knobbled me?

      So, the fun continues...

After reading favourable comments here I picked up a Billion 7402G router on eBay for peanuts. After a few setting up 'issues'... ahem... I am now solidly connected at 2.8 meg, which is what Sky say they have set my G.DMT connection to sync at.

Wireless performance seems stronger and the kids report improvements on the 360.

The Billion's set-up pages are a little more in-depth than the Netgear. Any super-user tips anyone?
