Moving Home: I want it and I want it quick! lol

I'm moving home in 2 weeks time, I've already sorted my Sky+HD re-installation out but I want to add SkyBroadband to my package.

I was one of the original Sky Broadband subscribers (back when it got abit crazy lol) and have to make do with Orange Broadband temporarily for a year - which has been hell! the service is awful! So can't wait to get back to the far better service.

The house I'm moving to already has Sky Broadband, so do I really have to wait at least a week to get connected? and do I really need to have been in the property for at least 5 days before I can order it? (this is what Sky told me).

I've got the old Sky router from when I was a previous user - could I use it?

It just seems a bit odd that it would take so long to connect an already connected line?

I'd highly recommend you see which Sky broadband packages your new line will qualify for. If the only option is Sky Connect, steer clear. It's a incredibly lousy package that doesn't deliver much faster than dial-up speeds, but at broadband prices. And their customer service is the worst I've ever experienced. I've been trying to get my line problems resolved for over a month now.

Connect is a poor product. Fortunately for the OP, their exchange is LLU'd

What does LLU refer to? is this higher speed internet?

I wouldn't use a lower package anyway, I will be subscribing to the max pack (or whatever it might called now).

I was very happy with this package when I previously subscribed

RE: house already having Sky BB, this will have to be cancelled down before the new provision can go on...

and the new line will have to show active at BTs end before an order can be placed (which is usually 5 days but can be quicker)...

end of the day, it won't be quick...looking at best part of 2 weeks...

At least 2 weeks, cancellation, line then needs to clear and then order placed again.

It's amazing how slow things proceed over here. It takes a matter of a couple days for the same process in other countries.

Yep, I agree. Removing the adsl tag from a line should be same day. I dont see any reason why switch over of adsl should take anything more than a day.

I'd imagine it's all down to scheduling. I find it amusing how people seem to think there's an infinite number of BT Openreach engineers sitting round each exchange waiting for a job to come through. Surprising as it may sound the limited number of engineers there are are possibly dealing with tens, if not hundreds of such requests and jobs every day so whilst a job may only take half an hour or so the reason it takes 5 - 10 days is because that's how long the usual turnaround is.

Re: Moving Home: I want it and I want it quick! lol

I think that's the problem. Surely in this day and age of technology it should all be done remotely by a switch on a PC that controls the exchange. It should all then happen automatically when the operator fills in the request on screen when the cuistomer calls.

It seems anarchic that an actual person has to physically go to the exchange to disconnect the previous Sky BB connection to a house and then go again to re-connect it for the new owner.

We're upgrading cabling, gone from dialup to ADSL to MaxDSL, to ADSL2+ etc etc, but not upgraded the process of doing switch overs.
