      Loosing internet connection

Hi i am in need of help.

My internet keeps cutting out intermitently at different times during the day. It started a few months ago and i contacted sky and they managed to sort the problem out.

They suggested i move the router so it was closer to the wall socket and not on an extension. So now there is only a 1 meter cable from wall socket to router and not 9 meters. Also they said plug in to master socket and not normal socket, this made a huge difference to my connection. Not only did it sort out my connection problems it also increased my speed.

Anyway 3 weeks ago BT upgraded the lines in our area and my speeds went from 5310 Bps to 10120 Bps in test socket or 8140 in normal socket. And now my connection keeps dropping again.

I contacted Sky this morning and spoke to someone at the Broadband help desk and they seem to think its a line fault and put me through to sky talk. Here they ran several test, assuming noise related and said line is fine.

Ive read othe forums about noise margins and mine is at 10.3 when i unplug and then re power the router, over the course of the day it drops to around 9.2. So really this still seems to be ok. So what else could be causing my connection to drop????

Oh i also changed micro filters and also kept sky box and phone unplugged and still it drops.

Please any suggestion will help greatly....

Don't know what else to try

      Re: Loosing internet connection

      Greetings,

You say that BT done some work on the line`s in your area and from this your line speed has jumpped,

Did you see BT work men and vans ?
This speed increas mite have been part of BT`s 21cn work,
Or could just be dlm kicking in,

If you could post your full line stats would be more help,

Line stats information can be found here :

      Regards
      Steven

      Re: Loosing internet connection

You have been put on ADSL2+ and possibly DLM is running. Unless BT actually laid new phone lines there is nothing they would do that would improve your connection. Sky have moved you from G.DMT, that is the reason for the speed increase.
21CN has no effect on Sky connections and unless the exchange has been upgraded by BT to 21CN WBC it will have no effect on any other ISPs broadband connections.
