      Unhappy Help! Super slow connection!

Before I call tech support I thought I would post here.

I have just been connected yesterday, and am getting sub-dialup speeds!!

Seriously, Im lucky if I'm getting 1KB/sec.

      My router stats are:-
      System Up Time 02:51:15
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 3071 3282 0 134 1025 00:53:20
      LAN 10M/100M 517 0 0 13 0 02:51:12
      WLAN 11M/54M 69595 44933 0 7906 619 02:51:02

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7645 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 44.0 db 25.8 db
Noise Margin 5.3 db 12.0 db

Anyone have any ideas? I used to be connected via NTL cable before I moved house.

Your noise margin is low. First thing to do is reboot your router and let it sort itself out.

Post back the changes that made.

OK, rebooted the router and now I get:-

      System Up Time 00:01:37
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 7 7 0 20 36 00:00:13
      LAN 10M/100M 188 0 0 461 0 00:01:34
      WLAN 11M/54M 420 276 0 1642 477 00:01:24

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7061 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 44.0 db 25.9 db
Noise Margin 7.1 db 12.5 db

and from speedtest.net I'm now actually able to get a result!!
      9/27/2006 8:41 PM GMT 5331 kb/s 396 kb/s

Is the 5.3 > 7.1db noise margin change that big a deal? Are there any good links I can read up on it?

      Cheers for the help btw.

Your connection is now about right for your attenuation - you could probably improve it a bit if you wanted to. Have a look through the posts re. filtered faceplates.

Your noise level is on the low side but fine, especially for this time of the evening. Anything below 6 will give you problems.

Leave your router powered up and things should be fine from now on. If you do power your router down then you'll have to reboot again when the noise margin drops below 6.
