      A little confused by my speeds

      Hello,

      I have recently set up with Sky Max and have been doing a check on my line speed using the site recommended on here and speedtest.net and seem to get wildly different results and neither seem to be what my router stats say.
      Any idea which I should believe as i'm not really the most techy person.
      I'm a gamer so looking to get the best I can.
      Thanks

      The sky user speedtester is surpose to give a more reliable result than any other speed test site.

      Also if you are using win XP try TCP Optimizer.

      Are you using wireless connection for your router? If so then don't expect to get anywhere near your sync speed from the router.
      Even if your connected by wires you still have to take over heads into account of around 1.5 -2 MB

      How long have you been connected? It looks like DLM may still be running on your line. If you have been connected for more than 14 days, phone Sky and ask them to look at your speed as you should be doing much better.

      You can usually expect a download speed of 85-90% of your sync speed. Use the http://www.skyuser.co.uk/speedtester/ the larger testers are too heavily used and cannot be trusted, especially speedtest.net, which at times can dish out complete rubbish.

      Re: A little confused by my speeds

      Thanks everyone, I think it was the wireless explanation, if I connect to the router direct I get ;
      11392Kbps down
      777Kbps up

      That seems fine to me and should be good for xbox as I connect via ethernet.

      If you are getting a low speed with wireless try changing the Mode and channel in the router. Change the mode to 'g only' and start at Channel 13 and work your way down till you find he best one.
