Slow line after initial good speeds

      Hello
I moved into my new house a couple of weeks back and got sky broadband. My line was installed about 10 days ago and I was getting very good speeds of about 6Mb/s according to Speedtest.net and some downloading which backed it up.
A couple of days ago and my speed has dropped to this:

      These are my stats:
      ROUTER STATISTICS

      System Up Time: 00:08:27
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 5560 5598 0 2373 10557 00:08:01
      LAN 100M/Full 399 4 0 276 1 00:08:22
      WLAN 11M/54M 5853 6271 0 10704 2712 00:08:10
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 28 db 16 db
Noise Margin 13 db 19 db

My router is plugged into the main socket. My computer connects wirelessly to it.
I have an extension upstairs with a telephone connected, I have put a filter on that too.

About 2 days after Sky connected me I had a power cut. That only happened once.

What do you fine people suggest I do?

      Thanks in advance and regards

      Burns

Your stats are fine any you are syncing at over 8mb. This points to either a dodgy speedtest as the site you have used is far from accurate or more likely, wireless issues.

Try a cable and see how that does.

You may also want to change the channel in the router, try 13 and work down.

Better still, use the cable or get a couple of homeplugs if you don't like the wires running around the place.

You're on the Connect package and you're having your speed throttled during their so-called peak hours. As you've only been active for a short while ask for your MAC and move elsewhere while you still can. The Connect package isn't fit for purpose. - (Unofficial) FAQ - Sky Connect Users

Check SamKnows Broadband - Availability - Broadband Availability Checker to see if your local exchange has any LLU providers and go with one of those, O2 especially if you can get it, otherwise go for one of the better ADSL Max ISPs such as ADSL24 or Plusnet.

^^^ well no skirting round the bush with that answer

it may be worth waiting to check the wireless side of things first, before resorting to a complete change of provider

Unfortunately it won't make the slightest bit of difference. It's well documented that Sky Connect users have their speeds severly throttled between 5pm and 12am. as we all know by now.

Re: Slow line after initial good speeds

As Neil says the Connect problem is well documented, if you use your connection between 5 and 12, your speed is severely throttled. Move as soon as you can, prefereably to an LLU provider or failing that to one like Plusnet or ADSL24 who are up front about their bandwidth management policy.

Re: Slow line after initial good speeds

      Hi Guys
Connection seems zooty again this morning. Speed Test:

It seems that they are in fact throttling my line which means I shall be cancelling my service with them this afternoon.

      Thanks for the replies.

It seems my exchange has no LLU providers. What are BT like then, because that's my only other option?

Re: Slow line after initial good speeds

BT make even Sky look good in my experience - when I was having problems with my connection constantly dropping, I made the grand total of NINETEEN calls to BT (I was sad enough to count them as I was getting angrier by the second) before I got the right person and almost every single person I spoke to, at best, spoke pidgin English. A total and complete nightmare. Buyer beware!

So I switched to SKY (silly me): look at the pitiful speeds I've been getting the past 2 weeks (I saved this to my signature for posterity!):

So if you find a decent ISP then let me know because I've had enough of Sky as well!

Try Plusnet or ADSL24, both have good reports.
