      Tackling some low speeds.....

      Hi all

Going to be a lengthy post this as i try to explain - been with Sky 2 years on the Max package.

I had issues at the start with connection drop outs and slow connection speeds as detailed in this old thread.

Connection seems to drop/freeze but router fine?

I sorted the dropouts as i changed setup and had my router connected to the main BT socket via an RJ11 cable and my PC upstairs is connected via wireless.

Problem is i still only get connection speeds of 2800-3600kbps on the router. Given my stats as you will see this does make sense with a line attenuation of 60db but what i dont get is with previous ISP's on the max packages i was getting 6000kbps easily.

I put this down to being on Sky's LLU package and that it was different, but recently i downloaded the Sky Router Tool and it showed im actually on G.DMT which as i understand it is ADSL 1 and not ADSL2?

My wiring is fine, ive gone through all that before - plugging into the master socket does increase the connection to say 3800-4000kbps but still lacking a bit with what i had before with 3 previous ISP's over the course of a year.

Is there anything left that i can do? Maybe if someone can explain technically how 3 ISP's can get me 6000kbps line connection but Sky can only get me 3500kbps i can get on with my life but the low speeds keep nagging me so finally trying to do something about them!

For info its 2.3km as crow flies to Exchange, 3.5km following the main roads.

Will hook this up now and post up asap for reference, I have done this a few times before but i forget the rest of the stats but the connection speed was around 3800kbps so went up around 200-400kbps.

Just to clarify, are these from the Test socket as described in Sky User - How to test your Master Socket and not just from the master socket? The basic stats will be fine. Make sure you power off/on the router.

If those stats are indeed from the test socket then I don't think you can do any better

You would be better on GDMT than ADSL2 because it handles long lines better but other than that I think your at your maximum.

Yep ive always been aware that master socket stats are not much different and therefore according to them im getting technically more than i should - big question im asking is why with Sky LLU is getting higher line attenuation and slower connection speeds than previous ISP's?

Because you are possibly on ADSL2+ this increases the attenuation by 3 to 4db and it does not really like longer lines like yours, getting it put back onto G.DMT would lower the attenuation back down and because it can handle longer lines better should give a better connection speed.

      Hope this help.

His stats does show he's on G.DMT.

Have you tried removing your ring wire: Open up the master socket and remove an wires connected to terminal 3 on the faceplate.
