Re: slow connection and high noise margin and line attenuation

Your line has been capped, possibly due to an unstable connection during the DLM process. With that line attentuation you should be seeing the full 20Mbps.

If you have a test socket can you please connect your router to this, as described below, and repost your stats?

Sky User - How to test your Master Socket

EDIT: I've just noticed you're on the Mid package in which case you'll get the full 10mbps if you get back in touch with Sky and ask them reconfigure your line.

Re: slow connection and high noise margin and line attenuation

To be honest, a few Kbps below your maximum is unlikely to be noticed. Checking in the Test socket is a waste of time in this case, There is likely to be another reason. Are you using a wireless connection?
Do a speedtest at Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester if you are using wireless do one with that and then do one with a wired connection. Post the results here. Please use the tester indicated.

Re: slow connection and high noise margin and line attenuation

I have tried using the master socket and i got the same results with my master socket. Im using wireless so i tested the speed on the wireless. I also have a computer connected to the router via ethernet and both got the same results. The speed seems fine now but it goes slower at times.

Re: slow connection and high noise margin and line attenuation

You do know that your total bandwidth is split between the machines you have connected to the internet? If you are using one machine the speed on the other will be reduced accordingly. Usually the cable connetion will take more bandwidth than the wireless and if the connection is being maxed out the wireless will get nothing.

Running an AV scan while you are on line can also slow things down, so schedule these for when you are off-line. P2P clients like Kontiki, used by some iPlayers can run without your knowledge, slowing your connection down.

Try running netstat /b in a Command Prompt when your connection slows, this will show you what is running.

Are you connected to the master or slave socket?

Re: slow connection and high noise margin and line attenuation

Have you checked for Kontiki and other programs running?

If you are using XP, try doing the Tweak Test from the DrTCP link below. There is advice for Vista but it does not help a lot.

Do a speedtest on Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester and post the results here.
