      Exclamation Speed Drop

      Hi

I have had sky bb for over a year now and have been very happy with the speeds

Over the last week my router has been reseting and the Line Attenuation has gone up

I know i have only lost a small amount of speed
Does anyone have any idea why the line attenuation has changed after all this time

I was with tiscali before and the Line Attenuation was 38-39 with them also

I am plugged into the master socket the bell wire has been removed and i have no extentions

I also have a after market front plate which i have also tested
Which gives me a Line Attenuation of around 41.5

I have had a letter about the new faster speeds over the coming months but was not expecting any faster speeds

If i log onto the sky website its says there are no tests going on at the moment

      Re: Speed Drop

To expand, your line has been switched to ADSL2+, which in your case may give you a bit more speed. This is shown by the rise in your attenuation. Your existing noise margin shows that you have quite a bit in hand and could end up with 9Mb+. DLM takes anything from 3-10 days to train your line and if you end up with a poorer speed, you can ask for a manual configuration.

      Re: Speed Drop

      Hi

BB has settled on around 7mb
      Here are my stats

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7082 kbps 798 kbps
Line Attenuation 42.5 db 21.7 db
Noise Margin 11.3 db 10.5 db

I phone sky today and was told that my BB is running at 80% and i could not get any more
They could not explain the speed drop and would not confirm a adsl2 upgrade or network move or change

I was told not to ask to be put though to CST as my line test says i should only get 4mb
If i was put though to them they would cap my speed to 4mb

Had anyone been capped like this

What do ppl think should i ask for a manual config

What rubbish! They are talking rubbish. CST are not idiots, if you line is capable of getting more they will configure it to do so. If they think it will be unstable they will tell you and leave it as it is. They will certainly not put your speed back to 4 Mb and the agent that told you that is insulting CST's intelligence and should get a kick up the rear.
