      Upgrade BB Speed?

Hello, very new to this forum and Sky itself.
I have medium broadband which i pay 5 per month for and i'm only getting 1.76mb download speed, which is 200kbps max on a download.

My max line speed apparently is only 1.5mb.

If i upgrade to BB Max, 20mb download, will my line speed change or not?

      Thanks

simply no will not increase but if you post router stats (open router settings page by typing 192.168.0.1 in browser address bar then type "username" admin "password" sky at bottom of page you see link which says "show statistics" ) this will show line readings also check if have test socket and try router without any other devices ie phone sky tv compare readings

I think your line would probably do better on G.DMT, but just in case, plug the router into the Test socket, link below and please post your stats.

An iPlate only helps filter the ring wire, the same, or better effect can be obtained by pulling the wire off terminal 3.

There is a difference between the master socket and the test socket that has been mentioned. Can you confirm that you have put a new filter into the test socket (the master socket - if it an NTE master socket - will have two screws in the bottom half and a horizontal line splitting the faceplate in half which you can screw off and plug into the port to the right hand side) and are using the sky supplied light grey ADSL cable and not an extension rj11 cable for the broadband connection to the router?

Whether you could push out more from upgrading, you'd need to see if you could push more speed at the moment. From the stats and my point of view, it looks like DLM (dynamic line management) has ran on the line already and left the line slighty capped POSSIBLY. Either the DSL check that suggests the line can handle 1.5mb is underestimating OR it could be indeed correct that you should get around 1.5-2mb. If you fancy it, you could contact sky, state to tier 1 that you wish to have your 'max delays reduced' (this is just a way of getting escalated quicker to the customer solutions team who can reconfigure your line profile) and you'll be passed through to the customer solutions team (CST) who shall try different configs on your profile. Either way, you have a long line and personally I'd be happy with that and would rather keep it stable than fiddling with it. It's up to yourself, of course and if upgrading would not give you a better speed, then the only plus would be the fact you'd be nullified from the fair usage policy as it is 'unlimited'.

      Re: Upgrade BB Speed?

If you line is capped or has DLM running your speed will not increase, but other readings may change. As pointed out the master socket is not the Test socket and if you have an iPlate you must have one. Please post your stats from there. This is purely a check, I am quite sure you would do better on G.DMT.

      Re: Upgrade BB Speed?

yeah im using the supplied grey cable and i am now direct to the test socket and i have removed the phone etc so all that is plugged in is the microfilter then the phone cable direct to the modem. just ran speed test and its still 1.76mb.

That confirms that the mode is the problem. As User05 suggests "you could contact sky, state to tier 1 that you wish to have your 'max delays reduced' (this is just a way of getting escalated quicker to the customer solutions team" When you get there, ask the agent to move your line back to G.DMT for a better speed.. Unless you are a gamer ask the agent if reducing your delay will reduce your speed, if he says yes, tell him not to bother, you would rather have the speed.
