Connection dropping only when using newsgroups

Hope someone can help with this problem.

I've just moved over to Sky Broadband on their Max/Unlimited package however over the weekend i've been having a problem connecting to newsgroups through my Newsleecher application.

I can open up Newsleecher and use the SuperSearch or browse the headers, but as soon as I start to leech anything my Sky Broadband connection instantly drops. This doesn't happen with anything else i'm doing.

The only way to reset it, is to go to the router box and switch it off and back on again. The router is the Sagem F@ST 2504

This is very frustrating as i've been a BT customer for more than 8 years and never had this problem before, and only moved over to Sky as I was getting the TV package and the phone line, so thought i'd get the cheaper broadband too.

      Hopefully someone can help! Cheers.

As Sky would have informed you in the Broadband Activation letter you will be on a 10 day line training period known as DLM and you shouldn't be turning off your router during this period.

Can you post your stats, from the normal position and from the Test socket, link below.

With Sky you will be on ADSL2+ which is more susceptible to line problems than BTs ADSLMax. If you have internal problems, now is the time to fix them.

I'm past the 10 day training period now, and I didn't turn off or have to turn off the router during this time. Funnily enough I was using Newsleecher without any problems during that period, and it's just now, 2 weeks after activation that i'm getting problems.

Here is a screengrab of the normal position. I'll grab the one from the Test socket soon...

And here's one for the Test Socket

Ahh OK, I assumed when you mentioned you just moved over you literally meant you just moved, ie in the last few days.

As the previous poster suggested please post your router stats both in it's normal position and again whilst connected directly (via microfilter) to the test socket if you have one.

Re: Connection dropping only when using newsgroups

Provided your noise margin does not drop badly when the line gets noisy, that's OK. Your speed could be a bit better, but that is down to the quality of your external line. There does not seem to be anything in your stats that would cause a drop, unless you noise margin is spiking badly. But that should show on everything, not just newsgroups. You could try downloading and running RouterstatsLite from - Internet Software If you save the stats for the noise margin that may give an indication of what is happening.

I notice that you simply moved the ADSL cable from the normal position to the test socket. Can you do a full power off/on of your router and then check the stats?
