Connection dropping only when using newsgroups

This is a discussion on Connection dropping only when using newsgroups within the Sky Broadband help forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; I've still got my old BT HomeHub. Will that work with Sky Broadband?...

As long as you can put your Sky username and password into it it should work OK.

I'll give it a go, thanks.

I did try the newsgroups last night with only 1 connection and that surprisingly worked. I'll up it to 2 tonight and see if it stays up.

I'll also try a different newsreader to see if it's newsleecher itself that's causing the problem.

It might be a router issue but I suffered from slow speeds on sky until I enabled ssl (I seem to be the only person that's suffered this issue). If a change in router doesn't work, it might be worth a try.

Hi. I'm still learning here, but I had similar problems with Newsleecher and Devolo Homeplugs. They worked fine with one or two connections and no SSL. Switching to SSL and 8 connections dropped the connection almost immediately.

Talking to the good folks at Devolo it seems like the problem is actually down to my electrical wiring. I am now connecting wirelessly with Newsleecher and 8 connections, SSL and no trouble.

      Hope this helps.

I'll give that a go mate. It sounds as if that might be the problem. Since getting the Sky router my wireless signal is excellent throughout the house. I got the Devolo plugs as my BT homehub wireless connection was very poor to the point of not working.

      Cheers

Big thanks to everyone and especially Franchise_mark! Turns out the homeplug was causing the problem. Getting a pretty steady download rate now with no sign of it dropping.
