Sky have capped my line, anything i can do?

Hi, I'm pretty fed up with my connection with sky. Seems they have capped me during the week around 6pm up until around midnight and all during the weekend.

I'm on the connect package upto 8mb which Ive been on since March 07. For the past year or so its been getting slower and slower and now its got to the point that i cant connect to games on xbox live, i cant watch youtube videos and downloading is pointless. Although general browsing is fine.

I have a filtered faceplate and a D-Link router, which states that I'm connected at 6848kbps down and 448kbps up.

Anyway guys id like to know whether i can ring sky and have the cap removed, will they even admit to capping my line?? Should i threaten to leave?

      Speed test below

      Thanks

      Allan

As the other posters have said you are being traffic managed (read throttled) and there's nothing you can do about it. Don't threaten to leave just ask for your MAC and leave, hopefully to an ISP that offers an LLU service.

Not sure what LLU means but done the checker from one of the links above and quite a few companies offer it, might look into o2. Their website wont open atm so will try when I'm not being throttled lol. Back to reading how crap connect is....

Re: Sky have capped my line, anything i can do?

LLU = Local Loop Unbundling. It essentially means that instead of offering a rebadged, shared BT ADSL service such as Sky Connect, the ISP will have it's own equipment and network at the exchange and therefore be able to offer much more capacity and bandwidth on its service.

This effectively means that there's no need to traffic manage, traffic shape, throttle, whatever you want to call it, so the speed you connect at is the speed you should get minus the usual overhead, 24 hours a day.

If you have an O2 LLU service at the exchange then I would highly recommend them, particularly as you can currently get 3 months free plus a further 50 casback if you use Quidco or Topcashback.

Incidentally what is the name of your exchange?
