      Upgrade package, lower speed

      Hi,

I upgraded my package today to the 20Mb unlimited one as I found out that my old Mid package had had it's download limit changed form 40 GB to 10 GB. I wasn't expecting my speed to increase but it's actually gone down. Before the router was connecting at about 9000kbps and I could download at about 7Mbps. Now it's connecting at 4096kbps and I can download at about 3.5Mbps. Is this normal? Should I phone them up or does it just take a few days to adjust when you upgrade your package? Thanks.

All new profiles on the unlimited package undergo a DLM (dynamic line management) training period. DLM is meant to gradually increase the speed to its most stable for the line. It can last anywhere up to 10 days - I've seen it run for 3-4 days, so just leave it 10 days at max, do not unplug the router and just let it do its thing. It should increase to where it was by the end of the training period. If it does not, then post back after DLM has finished.

Ok I'll leave if for 10 days then. Thanks for your help. I normally unplug the router at night, but will leave it switched on now - can I go back to unplugging it when it's sorted or is this generally a bad idea anyway?

I wouldn't worry about having to turn it off, mate. Routers are meant to be ran 24/7, so I personally would leave it on regardless of whether the training period is running or not.

Ok, thanks. It's just a habit I picked up from my Dad I think, unplugging everything at night!

Just to let you know User05, you were correct, after a few days my speed was back to normal. Thanks again for your help.
