      Moved House

      Same exchange. Same Sky Broadband.

Took ages to get switched on. Got a generic letter saying for a period of ten days our line will start at 4mbps.

But I thought Sky Max was not the type of BB that needs a training period?
But as I sign into the router for the first time I get this:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4091 kbps 510 kbps
Line Attenuation 22 db 10 db
Noise Margin 25 db 23 db

I know about 'not as the crow flies' but we do not live that far from exchange than other house and our drop wire blantantly connects to the 1m mile line that runs straight to the exchange. And yes I've taken into consideration the state our new house's internal wiring might be.

I just need to know if someone here can confirm 4mbps for first 10 days on Max is normal...and does our settings look ok. Or even how much we should expect on this line.

      Thank you in advance.

      Re: Moved House

All of the LLU packages, including Max/Unlimited go through the DLM training process and 4Mbps is indeed the starting speed as your letter has fully explained.

You may well get the maximum 20 Mbps with your line attentuation, you can improve your chances by following some of the advice in this thread: DLM and internal wiring.. Depending on when you were activated you may have a couple of days to optmise your internal wiring before DLM kicks in. What you want to be seeing is your noise margin increase as high as you can get it.

Thanks so much for your swift reply.

And reminding me about DLM. I'll try and be on top of it. I'd a feeling the stats would say tis a pretty good line.

Was checking for phoneline noise too, and well as any dodgy extensions.
There are many in this house...several I wish to remove from the master socket.

Will check out the sticky for the link in your reply.

      Ever helpful as usual.
      Thanks.

      Thanks.
The best thing you can do is get a filtered faceplate, the XTE 2005 is a good one and works well, link below for it

      ADSL Nation LTD.

This will get rid of the microfilters and you can then have a dedicated ADSL extension and it makes everything look tidy.

      mj,

if you read the letter with your activation date on it you'll see it says your speed starts at 4Mbps and will go up over the first 10 days...

      Re: Moved House

Just thought the letter was generic for all the Base/Mid & Max.

Was unaware Max is Unlimited now.

When I signed up to Max last year, Sky didn't do it that way. So I jumped in without checking the new sticky messages that pertain to it.

      Thanks I Am The Enemy.
I may finally get a dedicated NTE5 faceplate as I'm now in my own home.

I'll take a night out here and read all the messages to keep me more up to date.
