If you move with a MAC you will not be charged for joining another ISP, some charge for a router some don't. Here is Plusnet's instructions on switching. But shop around you may get a deal that suits you elsewhere.
Switch Provider (ISP) *<* PlusNet *|* Switch Broadband Provider UK

Use SamKnows Broadband - Comprehensive Broadband Information to find out what exchange you're on and what services are in your area.

Going by your stats, you should get 8Mb, which would give you a true download speed of about 7.2Mbps. The same as what you had with Sky Connect at the start.

I would not place much faith in 'Estimated speed' predictions by ISPs. The new Ofcom regulations require ISPs to give a speed estimate and can punish the ISP if it is not met. This means that ISPs are likely to grossly underestimate the speed, just to be on the safe side.
